It is published at the first of the month and will be distributed by the 7 th of each month by email for those members with email and USPS for those without. Articles, suggestions, and ideas are solicited and welcome please sent them to the editor, Bill Aurand, 10125 E Rainbow Meadow Dr, Tucson, AZ 85747 or email wraurand@cox.net Visit our Tucson SAR Chapter Website at: http://www.azssar.org/tucson/index.html A Message from the President John Niemeyer Compatriots, As 2016 is coming to a close I want to say I hope everyone enjoys the holidays. As the new year starts we will be moving the general chapter meetings to the American Legion Morgan McDermott post #7, 330 W Franklin St. Next chapter meeting will be held in January and we will install the 2017 chapter officers then. I enjoyed being your chapter president this year. January's meeting will be held on the 21 st of January at 9am. After January we shift the meetings to the 4 th Saturday of the month. There will be more on that later. John Lyons read the newest slate of Tucson Chapter Officers proposed for the year 2017: President Richard Collins VP Gerard Lawford Sec/Treas John Bird Registrar David Milam Genealogist Dr Abraham Byrd Chaplain John Agner Historian Bob Vint (The Younger) November Meeting Recap Submitted by Al Niemeyer, Members and guests met with difficult driving conditions due to the annual "El Tour de Tucson" to attend the November 19th, 2016th Tucson Chapter meeting at the Sabbar Shrine on Tucson Boulevard. Those that made it were rewarded by the featured speaker, Tucson Police Officer Charley Foley, who is an advocate of proper respect and use of the American Flag and he, together with fellow Police Officer Brandley Clark, have dedicated themselves to rehabilitating and flying American Flags on unused flag poles around the Tucson Metropolitan area. Their effort in this area has been extremely successful! Donations may be made at their web site, flags4flagless.org, to support this great enterprise. Elsewhere, the Chapter took great delight inducting Paul Fitch, into the SAR. Doing the induction ceremony was Chapter President John Niemeyer with Dr. Rudy Byrd doing the honor of pinning the SAR Rosette on Compatriot Fitch's lapel. Mrs. Nancy Alter requested that members consider supporting Cilla Lawrence's (PG Lawrence's wife) "Shoes for School" charity project. This project would put good quality shoes on Louisville area children that cannot afford shoes. Later, Compatriot Rick Collins discussed the proposal to change our Chapter meeting venue from the Sabbar Shrine to Morgan McDermott Post #7, 330 West Franklin. (Featured speaker Charley Foley given Flag Certificate for his dedication and work in putting American Flags on unused flag poles) (Dr. Rudy Byrd pins SAR Rosette on new member Paul Fitch) TUCSAR BUGLE 1

Kachina Society Article for the TucSAR Bugle By Bev Giordano, Sr. President Our November has been very busy for the Kachina Society. On November 6, we attended the Military Order of World Wars Massing of Colors. We had a quick meeting right before the event started. This was our third year of participating in the event. The presentation of the Colors and the patriotic music by the The Gatekeepers were very memorable. (Merged Color Guard Tucson Chapter SAR, DAR and Kachina Chapter CAR) We honored our wonderful veterans on November 11 by marching in the Tucson Veteran¹s Day Parade with the combined group of SAR and DAR participants. The kids had various roles in the parade: flag holders, camp followers, musketeers and drummer. We met many veterans and active duty military personnel. We also met Anna Rutherford of the Tucson DAR Chapter. She is turning 100 years old on March 3, 2017. She rode in a car that followed our marching camp followers. Meeting Anna was a special moment for all. On the Friday after Thanksgiving we decorated the Military Liaison Office at the airport for Christmas. We left little bags of goodies for the children of military men and women traveling home for the holidays. (DAR with flags, CAR in front) Our next meeting will be on December 10 at the Forty-Niners Country Club. We plan to hold a joint meeting with the Tucson Chapter DAR. Our State C.A.R. President, Gillian Alexander, will be the guest speaker. We will present our President with the many fleece blankets we made for her state project Soldiers Best Friend. Our Crazy Socks Drive will end the last week in January. If you would like to help us by donating a pair of crazy socks for less fortunate children, please contact Mrs. Giordano, 7366 E. Sabino Terrace Pl, Tucson, AZ 85750 or giordanobeverly@gamil.com. The Kachina Society N.S.C.A.R.
