January 2, 2018 Dear City Council Candidate: The Office of the City Secretary, in compliance with the responsibilities as a filing authority for campaign finance reports under Title 15 of the Texas Election Code, has prepared this Candidate Packet to acquaint you with City regulations, and legal requirements of the State, pertaining to the May 5, 2018, City of Colleyville General Election for the purpose of electing Councilmembers to Place 5 and Place 6. The first business day to file for a place on the City of Colleyville General Election ballot is Wednesday, January 17, 2018, and the last day is Friday, February 16, 2018. The packet contains the following information and forms: FRONT POCKET FORMS ARE TO BE FILED WITH THE CITY SECRETARY Application for a Place on the City of Colleyville General Election Ballot two copies Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate - A candidate may not knowingly accept a political contribution or make a political expenditure at a time when a campaign treasurer appointment is not in effect. (Tex. Elec. Code Ann. 253.031). Code of Fair Campaign Practices - A copy of the Act is provided in Tab 4 chapter 258 in Title 15 Election Code, subscription to the Code is voluntary. Financial Disclosure and Business Conflict of Interest forms - To be completed and filed two business days following the closing of filing for elective office as per City of Colleyville Ordinance O-16-2002. You may send a representative if you cannot attend. A City Council Candidate Orientation will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018, immediately following the drawing, in the Executive Conference Room. During the orientation, staff will review City operations and policies, and the election process, including political sign regulations. We encourage you to thoroughly review the enclosed information.
