GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Sentence Patterns Compound Complex (5-6 minutes) General Description: The compound-complex sentence is made up of one or more dependent clauses AND two or more independent clauses. An independent clause has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. A dependent clause has a subject and a verb but has an incomplete thought. Example: IC DC IC I like Japanese culture, that is why when I graduated from college, I migrated to Japan. Remember: Because the compound-complex sentence expresses two or more thoughts in one sentence, we should punctuate them properly.
