THE ASMC TROLLER NEWSLETTER VOLUME 21 ISSUE 5 JUNE JULY 2017 ASMC President s Message Next Board Meeting: Thursday Aug 3, 2017 11:00 am in the Sparkman Center Conference Room, Bldg. 5301 Room 1148 ASMC Monthly Luncheon: Thursday Aug 10, 2017 11:00 am in the Sparkman Center Executive Dining Room, Bldg. 5302 As we embark on a new year together, I want to thank all of you for your support and extend a special thank you to the board and committee chairpersons. As with anything in our world of forecasting, apportionments, allotments, and the ever popular audit readiness nothing happens on accident or alone, and for that I am grateful and humbled. I am excited to serve with each of you. In my first address as president I asked that we all find a way to serve the chapter, I want to reiterate that call and ask that if you have 5 min or 5 hours to give each month let the board know and we will find something for you to help us out with. Now I know that time is precious so I will keep it short. Please take some time to review the upcoming events and professional development opportunities in this newsletter. The board has made special attention to offer a good selection and in a variety of locations. We will even try a virtual meeting this year so you can still get your CPEs during year end madness. Now finally I want to highlight what your membership in ASMC means. It is your source to get to know the comptroller field but also the comptrollers in this area. Membership has a price; but if you take advantage of the relationships, service opportunities, and the professional development meetings what you will gain will be invaluable. (Just so MasterCard doesn t demand a royalty for the word priceless =) Thank you again for your time and I look forward to seeing you at future ASMC events. National set up a website/chat for board members to ask questions. National can put our information on their website with a 9 month advance notice. Regarding CDFM, the tests are being revamped; you are encouraged to take the tests now. Discussed Wednesday vs. Thursday luncheons; possibly having the board approve changes to future dates/locations. Stephen Elison Vice President: Individuals can sign up to be a Committee Lead or Committee Member. July will be a joint meeting with the outgoing/incoming personnel. Working with Morgan Franklin to update the website. Consider moving PDI to Thurs after AUSA (29 March) to potentially increase senior leader participation and sponsorships. Debbie O'Neal - Committee on Committees / Community Projects / Special Events: Awards: Squared away; will be ready for presentation. Special Events: The Red Cross CPR Course was considered a Community Project and ASMC received hour credits; the picnic was a success; the DoubleTree called as they are already booking for December 2017 Christmas parties; we should get a reservation locked in early. Ideas from PDI: start an early careerist committee Jennifer Stephenson Scholarship: No items to discuss; scholarships wrapped up for the year. Dana Wilbanks Membership: No items to report. It s important for everyone to update their email addresses. PDI Membership round table ideas: changing the name from luncheon to professional development / meeting; provide sessions for careerists to give insight on advancement; different organizations assigned a program to plan (MDA for June, AMC for July, etc); most chapters put the responsibility on the organizations for coordination; include afterhours fun events. Audrea Edwards Treasurer: Start preparing new committee chairs/board members as the new board will hit the ground running. Tina Hinze Programs: July 12th, Wednesday, program is being confirmed and coordinated with protocol; it will be a brown bag unless you have MDA access due to security. Lisa Lowry Chapter Competition: Chapter Competition deadlines come fast; the first item required is a list of the new officers and planned events; data must be submitted by 31 March.
