Thegreatesthonorhistorycanbestowisthetitleofpeacemaker.Thishonornowbeckons America thechancetohelpleadtheworldatlastoutofthevalleyofturmoil,andontothat highgroundofpeacethatmanhasdreamedofsincethedawnofcivilization. Ifwesucceed,generationstocomewillsayofusnowlivingthatwemasteredourmoment, thatwehelpedmaketheworldsafeformankind. Thisisoursummonstogreatness. IbelievetheAmericanpeoplearereadytoanswerthiscall. Thesecondthirdofthiscenturyhasbeenatimeofproudachievement.Wehavemade enormousstridesinscienceandindustryandagriculture.wehavesharedourwealthmore broadlythanever.wehavelearnedatlasttomanageamoderneconomytoassureits continuedgrowth. Wehavegivenfreedomnewreach,andwehavebeguntomakeitspromiserealforblackas wellasforwhite. Weseethehopeoftomorrowintheyouthoftoday.IknowAmerica syouth.ibelieveinthem. Iknowthatpeacedoesnotcomethroughwishingforit thatthereisnosubstitutefordays andevenyearsofpatientandprolongeddiplomacy. Ialsoknowthepeopleoftheworld.
