Support for Families and Loved Ones of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) The families and loved ones of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), inclusive of missing and murdered transgendered women and two-spirit individuals, deserve support that is trauma-informed and culturally appropriate. This may include a variety of counselling services, access to Elders, Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, and Healers as well as services to help families better understand court proceedings, coroner s inquests, and court investigations. Getting to Know the Family Information Liaison Unit Additional funding has been designated to help families in need of assistance in areas where there are limited supports and services available. A project announced by the Department of Justice following the launch of the Inquiry into MMIWG, each province has been tasked with providing families with support and assistance that is community-based. This includes funding existing work of Indigenous organizations and specialized victim services programs. Read more about how the Family Information Liaison Units have built or are in the process of building their support systems by working with families of the MMIWG, organizations, and government agencies here: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/fund-fina/cj-jp/fund-fond/vict.html The Native Women s Association of Canada is providing this list in order to provide families of the MMIWG with contact information for the individuals responsible for their province s FILU. Please note that not all FILUs are yet operational and that these FILUs are not associated with NWAC. They are supported by the Department of Justice.
