Takuma Sato, in 2013, became the first Japanese to win an IndyCar race in the 106 year history of the championship open-wheel auto racing series. HITACHI Japanese Kite Workshops - Serving 1,500 children at Title 1 schools (lowincome students). 2. Japan Bowl of California - Japanese language and culture competition for high school students who choose to study Japanese as their foreign language. Your participation will also benefit the 2011 Japan Relief Fund, which was established by the Society just hours after Japan s worst natural disaster on March 11, 2011. To date, the 2011 Japan Relief Fund has raised $1.5 Million for immediate relief and long-term rebuilding. 100% of the funds raised are sent directly to Japan, and all overhead and administration costs are covered by the Japan American Society. Frank joined KTLA in June 2005 from CNN, where he had been a Los Angeles-based national correspondent. In March 2011, Frank traveled to Japan and was the only Los Angeles-based local reporter to provide coverage from Sendai after it was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.
