Results related to Hungary Migration- definitions for the Hungarian situation: General meaning of transfer from one country to another due to various reasons Specific meaning for Hungary: leaving underdeveloped towns/counties and moving to other parts of the country leaving the country for economic reasons (free movement of labour, higher salaries, better standards of living for both white collar and blue collar workers) target countries: UK, Norvegia, Canada 6

Results related to Hungary Migration- definitions for the Hungarian situation: Specific meaning for Hungary (cont.): leaving the country for ethnic reasons!- Roma population fleeing to Canada! leaving the country for academic reasons (young students going to countries where tuition fees are lower due to 2012 January change of tuition fee system in higher education) for Békés county: steady loss of population year by year due to lack of labour opportunities 7

Results related to Hungary Qualitative results: Change in the type of the migrant and migration: Foreigners coming to Hungary Békés county population moving to other parts of the country (mainly Budapest) Young professionals leaving the county for other parts of Hungary Young professionals (especially doctors) leaving the country for UK, Norvegia etc. 10

Results related to Hungary Qualitative results: Change in the type of the migrant and migration: Secondary school pupils (especially from Transdanubia) leaving the country for Austria, where education is cheaper GCSE graduates leaving the country for universities abroad where tuition is cheaper Though not a form of migration, but preparing it in the long run, increase in candidacy for ERASMUS scholarships Moving abroad for any type of work, whether qualified or not! 11

Results related to Hungary Qualitative results: Impact of and on education as far as migration is concerned: Subject content and financial changes of the public/vocational/professional education at all levels New legislation passed by Parliament in December 2011 covering all areas of activity Decreasing the age limit for compulsory education High procentage of population with only 8 classes Increasing the age limit for retirement 12

Results related to Hungary Qualitative results: Impact of and on education as far as migration is concerned: Decreasing authoriy and impact of teaching staff Decreasing authoriy and impact of public order staff Deliberately missunderstanding economic and criminal problems by certain categories of population and trying to find short cuts Roma population fleeing to Canada on political reasons! 13

Primi risultati del gruppo Ungheria Metodo: Il percorso di ricerca The method of gaining information was contacting stakeholders, potential target groups both on the authorities side and on the individuals affected by the aspects dealt with by the project. Statistical data have been taken from the Hungarian Statistics Office and the 2011 census. 14
