Florida Atlantic University Student Government Boca Raton House of Representatives 6th Legislative Session April 13th, 2012 Call order 3:33pm Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call: APPROVALS: Motion to approve April 6th,2012 minutes by Coffman, seconded by Boydman Motion to approve April 13th 2012 agenda by Preston, seconded by Montes Motion to move in house elections and Oath of Office after special order speeches by Coicuo, seconded by Coffman, objection by Montes Roll call: Motion passes SPECIAL ORDER SPEECHES: Boris: I ve been getting a lot of questions about something that s been going on. Tuesday it was amazing hope you all enjoyed it. Over the weekend I got a mime for student government and someone took it upon themselves to take it an extra step and I think some people will get extremely offended if you don t like it just ignore it. Don t comment but if you give it too much attention then you re only encouraging it to happen, but I hope it gets toned out a little bit. Motion to admit all members by Coicou, seconded by Preston Pop: Cyrise Coffman: it was a one in a life time opportunity to see the president to come and congratulations Preston: I just want to apologize to my honorable colleagues, especially those in my committee for my absences. I got a new job two or three weeks ago working at a movie theater, due to the nature of the business it hard to get Fridays off. But over the summer I will make it to the meeting, in order to fulfill the duties for which I was elected. IN HOUSE ELECTIONS: Boris: Is there a Marie L Dezine nope; is there a Mahmoud Haman no; is there a Kevin Hubbard no; is there an Anthony Knight, please come down and tell us about yourself Knight: I m currently a freshman. In high school I was on the board of my NHS and SHS. I was also captain of my soccer team. I like being involved and be involved with everything at FAU.

Boris: Questions Preston: Are you currently employed? Knight: Yes at Panera Bread Rosario: Is there anything you d want to change? Knight: Not yet, I just want to get myself more involved Boris: Camilo Mejia sent me an e-mail last meeting that he wouldn t make it, but this time he did not e-mail me. Mr.Smith also sent me an e-mail last meeting but he also did not e-mail about his absence. Is there a Robbie Spath nope. We will now be voting on Marie L. Dezine whether she should be a house member. A vote of yes is approve Dezine as a member and a vote of no is not to approve Dezine as a member. Roll call: Marie L. We request that it s voted on today and not sent to

committees. If you have not added your name as a sponsor please do so because if the bill passes we re going to present it to our commander in effort to show that student leaders supported us for the betterment of our training Boris: Questions, none Ian Maun: I m a senior ever junior gets invited to compete in a competition in Washington one obstacle is rope climbing. This rope would help train and help us compete and hopefully allow us to become the best in the state of Florida. Broudy: do you have the quote for the rope as well? Berichi: Yes it s on the back Sandy: Dare to be prepared, we have turned to a one day interview. 30 to 40 different employers. It has had been a very successful event. We do several break out sections to everything from networking and how to be successful in your first profession. We partner up with number of local employers that come in and spent about two hours and do nothing but critique student resumes. It helps students get connected to the resources in the career development at FAU. Boris: Questions Boris: Can anyone attend the event? Sandy: Yes any undergrad or graduate student is more than welcome to attend our event PRESIDENT S REPORT: Huffman I will be giving the president s report The LBJ monument is coming to reality to install that monument and also we re working on a voters registration drive. I also encourage you all to attend the sg banquet on April 24 th, which will be in the stadium. I also fully support the ROTC bill because we should give back to the students Coffman: do you have a quote for the LBJ monument Huffman: Yes an estimation of $2,000 Campbell: where s Ayden Huffman: His in Tampa Campbell: Why Huffman: I do not know Dunne: Are you aware these banners will encourage enrollment Huffman: Yes that is the whole purpose Motion to extend speaker s time by 2 minutes, seconded by Dunne Preston: What your opinion on the budget cuts Motion to close the floor by Arsolino, seconded by Cyrise Pop: Davis VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT: covered in presidents report GOVERNOR S REPORT:

E-Banks: I have two more weeks and I ll be free. I would also like to invite you to stress week it gives you a highlight of all the events. One and a half will be the length of stress week this year and we have spent less money on promotional items. The year is coming to an end and I would employ you to venture off and look around. And until next week oh wait I would like to talk about the career development bill. This event would help students transition to the world of employment. I am one of the student leaders that challenges there advisors and I think they ve had enough of me and Mr. Bastidas. Preston: Are you graduating? E-banks: I m going to grad school PROGRAM REPORT S: MP Director: On Thursday we had My name is Khan a lot of people should up Program Board Report given by MP Director: the step up show is tomorrow and it s $5 dollars Maher: is the $5 for students and guess MP Director: No it s only for students will a valid owl called SAVY Director: we will be having a volunteer reception for everyone who has volunteered throughout the year and we also have our final project with seeds Treasurer: Also the print machine bill was approved. If the house were to pass these two bills today the house would be left with approximately $36,000 excluding the paintball bill Preston: What happens with the money that isn t used Treasurer: All accounts are closed and they start with a new budget, which the C- back approves Pronman: When does this fiscal year end? Treasurer: it ends June 30th CHIEF JUSTICE S REPORT: We have opportunities for you to volunteer in stress week the volunteers will get promotional items STUDENT GOVERNMENT ADVISOR S REPORT: Heather: the all night study was supported by student government, but it has not been maintained. I ve heard from a lot of students that it s not well maintained and as student government we have to maintain want we support. If you have suggestions I d like to hear them. It s a great resource and a lot of students utilize it. Boris: Questions Boydman: Do you think we d want to open another center that s open twenty four hours Heahter: We need to maintain what we ve already funded Rosario: What have students been complaining about? Heather: they re saying that people are monopolizing the private study rooms, people are leaving their belongings in these rooms and talking on the phone Dunne: What should I be expecting from the sg banquet? Heahter: Student s nominate a student and award awards to them also people dress up

Motion to extend speakers time by two minutes by Coffman, seconded by Moss Heahter: I don t believe the computers have been updated and we need to keep it at the right level for students. We all need to care about it more. Dunne: Do I have to rsvp by a certain time Heahter: I m sure Mr. Burdman could answer that question for you STUDENT GOVERNMENT COORDINATOR S REPORT: Mike Burman, I d like to congratulate Mr. Knight and I hope to see you become an active member of student government. For stress week volunteer if you can. CHAIR REPORTS: COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEE: SPEAKER PRO-TEMPORE Lupo: We did have a meeting today and approved a lot of absent appeals.we recommended to pass the 2012-2012 budget and we are leaving the dare to be prepared event for you guys to decide. Broudy: how many points is it to not be a house member Lupo: I would recommend the speaker to answer that question for you Boris: it s four Broudy: if you miss the first or last roll call you still have to file an absent appeal form Lupo: Yes RULES AND POLICES: AMANDA PHILLIPS: We decided to pass the budget for the next school year and we didn t have a chance to talk about BRHB-12-10. WAYS AND MEANS: JAIRO MONTES: No report CAMPUS ACTION: THAIS ARSOLINO: No report CAMPUS BUDGET: JASON WU: No report HOUSE FORUM: Boris: I have the Dare to be Prepared for 2012 quote for the event. I think we should pass the budget and next week is going to be very hectic and so the ROTC bill should be passed so we can start fresh in the next meeting. I support the collegiate housing and infrastructure act resolution. Preston: The support the collegiate housing and infrastructure act resolution. Private housing would alleviate a lot of pressure from the housing department to house everyone if they had allies. As for the budget I trust Wu and Bastidas to write us a decent budget. For the Dare to be prepared event I don t see why we wouldn t support this bill. As for the ROTC bill I fully support this bill, they give us there free time. Broudy: I fully support the ROTC bill and as for the collegiate infrastructure housing I think it should be tabled to all committees. Lupo: I just want to voice my support for the ROTC bill and I spoke to the author Mr. Berichi and they re only asking for $1,000 which isn t a lot. Coicuo: Dare to be prepared should be passed since it has a quote, and as for the private housing resolution I would like to see this tabled indefinitely and worded a little better. As for the ROTC bill I fully support it. POP: Arsolino

Boyman: The Gems club will be having its last meeting. We will be making Silver tear drop earnings and if you haven t gone to one of our meeting you should come and create something with the Gems. LEGISLATIVE REPORT: Boris: I have no problem with having student affairs control our budget because they have been irresponsible in the past if you have any questions come and ask me or Mr. Burdman we re Dinosaurs. I heard the Broward governor volunteered for Obama s visiti and couldn t get in and then she got to meet him in Tampa. Hmm what coincidence to know that someone else happens to be in Tampa today as well. Rosario: Are you aware that if our basketball team loses today I will never take you seriously
