Bill reimbursed Auxiliary member Renate Weidenfield the cost of her December Holiday Luncheon as she was one of four guests hosted by the Chapter Membership: Dave Fleming reported to Rob Welch a current total membership of 233. To date, 62% of the membership has paid their renewal dues. The 10% early payment option offered this year seems to have had a positive effect. Gary Fredricks noted that the roster should be sent to National MOAA by the 1 st of February to receive funds for the retention of Chapter members Arrangements: Arlene Day has no report this month Auxiliary & Wives: Nancy Burt reported to Rob Welch that she resent the returned holiday card to Aino Baudu in Canada; she spoke to Sue Gilbertson and Doris Iacobelli to wish them a Happy New Year and let them know of their fabulous picture at the Christmas Luncheon in January s The Sentinel; Sue and Doris expressed their appreciation to the Chapter for hosting them at the December Holiday Luncheon; Nancy attempted to follow up with Clare Gannon and Renate Weidenfield, the two additional Auxiliary members in attendance at the luncheon, but was unable to reach them

Council of Chapters: Bill Roscher requested authorization to pay the Chapter dues of $199.99 to the COC; a motion to pay was made by John Ady and seconded by Ron Green; passed by members present. Gary Fredricks reported for Ron Perkins on their December 6 meeting in Bull Head City AZ regarding the area request for a satellite Chapter. The Prescott MOAA Chapter would be the host for the new Chapter; there appear to be approximately 600 MOAA members in the area of Kingman, Lake Havasu, Bull Head City, etc; financing is required and the request is a work in progress but all are encouraged the local interest ESGR: Chuck Schluter has no report this month Historian: Jim Cullison has no report this month JROTC Awards: Terry Tassin reported to Rob Welch that National MOAA has repeatedly advised him that no requests for awards will be honored until January 2014. Terry will be ordering them during the month of January JROTC Scholarships: President Rob Welch reports that letters of instruction and scholarship application forms have been mailed to the 17 high schools covered by the Chapter, the JROTC Coordinator of the Union School District and the non-jrotc student at a charter school in our area of responsibility who is interested in a career as a military officer Legislative Affairs Federal: Gary Fredricks reports that Congress will be back in session next week after its Thanksgiving and follow up Christmas breaks. Some progress has been made while much has been further delayed. The good news is that a bipartisan budget for 2014 was approved by both houses and approved by the President before the yearend break and it provided a 3 month delay to scheduled Medicare/Tricare payment cuts to doctors. The bad news is that the budget had some serious issues for active duty military, military retirees and veterans. Gary reiterates that this is the time of year to influence bills for the coming year at both the federal and state level. All members need to become actively involved, sending relevant emails and letters to state and federal representatives and tracking pending bills/legislation that will affect us for years to come Legislative Report State: Corey Harris reported to Rob Welch that a luncheon meeting was held with Arizona s newly formed Veterans Caucus represented by Senator Al Melvin and Representative Jonathan Larkin. Attendees included representatives of MOAA, UAV, and several veteran service providers. The topic of discussion was issues facing the state s veteran community and what we jointly can do to address these issues. It was the first time effort to bring these organizations together as a united front to address veterans issues

MSVA/MANA House Liaison: Ron Green issues his final report for the year 2013; 908 cases of water for homeless veterans were delivered to the outreach center; several ongoing collections of clothes, towels, sheets, shampoos/lotions/etc were delivered; 1300 towels have been requested for the AZStandDown Ron is working with several local hotels to pick up their old ones as they are being replaced; Ron has received money for 70 cases of water to start the new year. Official letters have been sent to Choice and Marriott hotels asking for their participation in the towel/sheet need for our local veterans Newsletter: Jim Cullison has no report at this time. He is still seeking someone to assist him with keeping The Sentinal an award winning newsletter; please contact Jim if interested (cullison30@q.com). OLD BUSINESS By-Laws Rob reports that he is dissolving the current by-laws committee and recommends the incoming Chapter President consider naming a new committee. At the minimum Rob feels that the following needs to be considered: 1. Moving some of the items from the by-laws to the COI 2. Updating the COI with current information regarding various duties/responsibilities 3. Changing the date the bylaws can be changed to any membership meeting now allowed only at annual by-law meeting 4. Changing the date of the election to read normally for the December meeting 5. Changing the date of the swearing in of the newly elected BOD to the date of the election would avoid confusion and lame duck lag time 2014 Golf Tournament May 1, 2014 at Rio Verde Country Club, Fountain Hills Pat Dale reports that he has already lined up some sponsors who are providing gifts to the golf players. If you know a sponsor that would consider donating to this worthwhile effort raising money for the Chapter scholarship fund please contact them. Pat also reported that his wife Patricia is home from having replacement surgery and is undergoing rehab Luncheon Greeters for New Chapter Members: Dave Fleming has no report Diamondbacks Baseball Game: Jim Cullison is working with the Superstition Chapter to get game tickets.
