AMVETS DEPARTMENT OF FLORIDA Legislative Officer 1552 Donna Avenue Panama City, Florida 32404 Phone: (850) 871-0002; email: chieffrank@comcast.net March 10, 2014 To my fellow Florida AMVETS, Attached is the report on legislation affecting veterans, active duty personnel, and members of the Florida National Guard and reserve components, and their family members within Florida for the 2014 Florida Legislative Session. Information in this report is current as of March 9 th. The next Update will be issued on March 24 th. There have been 34 veteran/military bills filed, 16 in the House and 18 in the Senate. Another House bill was withdrawn by the sponsor. The other was HB0249. The 2014 Legislative Session began on March 4 th. The House deadline for filing proposed bills has passed and the Senate s deadline is noon of the first day of the session. As of this writing, no bill seems to have any opposition. There have been no nay votes by any committee member on veterans/military bills. Of course, some bills will eventually die in committee, usually because there was little support voiced by the citizens. The active participation of all veterans is vital in the legislative process. Everyone who has worn uniforms of this county need to study these bills and call and/or correspond with their Representatives and Senators need to tell them how important they feel about the issue.
