Bylaw Changes Article I, Section 1, Paragraph 1 Purpose and Rationale: The University has required that mentions of the University in student organization names must be after the name of the student organization to be more clear that the University is not affiliated with the student organizations dealings. Current Wording: The name of this organization shall be the Beta Theta Chapter
of Alpha Phi Omega. This organization may also be referred to as APO, APO UW, UWAPO, Alpha Phi Omega of UW Madison, Alpha Phi Omega at the University of Wisconsin Madison, Alpha Phi Omega, or Beta Theta (especially with regard to other chapters of Alpha Phi Omega and other similar forms. Proposed Wording: The name of this organization shall be the Beta Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega. in previous semesters. Current Wording: Rights and privileges of returning Active Members shall be bestowed at the beginning of each semester, based upon their successful completion of the requirements for Active Membership during the most recent semester that they were eligible. Those who fail to successfully complete all requirements for Active Membership or Associate Membership will enter a process of Evaluation, explained in the Appendix. Proposed Wording: Rights and privileges of membership shall be bestowed upon returning Members at the beginning of each semester. If the requirements for Active or Associate Membership in the Chapter were not completed in the most recent semester as an Active or Associate Member, the member will enter a period of probationary standing during the subsequent semester. If a member does not complete requirements for Active or Associate Membership during a period of probationary standing or for three (3) semesters overall, the member will be considered to be Inactive and will be removed from membership rosters for the Chapter and The Fraternity. Article II, Section 5, Paragraphs 1-4 Purpose and Rationale: Reasons for seeking Associate Membership is often a personal matter. Additionally, since a member seeking Associate Membership status does not affect the workings and dealings of the Chapter, the Chapter does not need to be consulted for approval unless abnormal or unusual circumstances apply. Current Wording: Associate Membership may be conferred upon an Active Member by a personal written request. Associate Membership is not automatically conferred. Requests for Associate Membership shall be addressed to the Vice President in Charge of Membership. In order to receive Associate Membership status, the Active Member must submit a written request to the Vice President in Charge of Membership by the determined deadline. Active Members enrolled as students, who leave campus for educational or vocational purposes (foreign exchange, cooperative education, study abroad, et cetera) are granted Associate Membership through the process through the process of 6a.
