MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE CANYON LAKE VETERANS DAY COMMITTEE August 10, 2017 5:00 p.m. Canyon Lake Council Chambers 31516 Railroad Canyon Road Canyon Lake, CA 92587 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:20 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Vicki Warren, Committee Chair, led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present: Committee Chair Vicki Warren and Committee Member Jordan Ehrenkranz 4. Public Comments There were no public comments. 5. Introduction of Committee Volunteers There were no introductions. 6. Accept Meeting Minutes 6.1 November 9, 2016 The minutes for November 9, 2016 were included in the packet for approval. The minutes for November 9, 2016 were approved as presented in the agenda packet. 7. Recap of November 11, 2016 Celebration Committee Chair, Vicki Warren, discussed that there were no issues except for the fly over was not as impressive as past years. Warren discussed the possibility of finding an alternative to the fly over. There was discussion regarding the option to coordinate a fly over with a neighboring city.
Canyon Lake Veterans Committee Minutes August 10, 2017 There was discussion regarding March Air Force Base offering their services. There was discussion regarding having a skydiver. There was further discussion regarding the use of a different fly over option. There was discussion regarding having a meeting to discuss the recap of the celebration soon after the Veteran s Day event. There was discussion regarding the potential of more people due to Veteran s Day 2017 being on a Saturday. There was discussion regarding the amount of chairs and shade that would be needed for Veteran s Day 2017. There was discussion to have the fly over either at the beginning or end of the event. There was discussion regarding a large tent for shade. Committee Chair Warren stated the balloon arch was beautiful and well done and a nice entrance for the public. There was discussion regarding the boy scouts and a box built by the boy scouts for citizens to drop off their old flags. There was discussion regarding boy scouts or cub scouts helping place flags for the veterans. There was discussion regarding updating the veterans list for the field of honor flags. There was discussion regarding the military banners placed on the Edison light poles. There was discussion regarding the military banners and the ability for active and retired military to purchase banners. There was further discussion regarding the military banners and when individual banners would be replaced or taken down. There was discussion regarding revising the military banner application. There was discussion regarding the space available for the military banners. 8. Veteran s Bricks There was discussion that there was no more space currently for the veteran s bricks and what the City could do to make more room and install more bricks. 2

There was discussion regarding food for the Veteran s Day event 2017. There was discussion regarding the availability of EZ Ups. There was discussion regarding CR&R having a booth at the Veteran s Day event 2017. There was discussion regarding having different veteran s related booths available. There was discussion regarding Canyon Lake being a Purple Heart City. There was discussion regarding the City sending an email to the veterans of Canyon Lake regarding the Veteran s Expo. There was discussion regarding Melissa Melendez as a guest speaker. There was discussion regarding the song My Name is Old Glory. There was further discussion regarding guest speakers for 2017. There was discussion regarding having another meeting to discuss the 2017 Veteran s Day Event. There was discussion regarding being more efficient on discussing the future event. There was discussion regarding noticing the meetings in advance. There was discussion regarding holding future meetings at 5:30 pm. There was discussion regarding dates for the next meeting and having the next meetings September 13 th and 27 th at 5:30 pm. There was discussion regarding the Fine Arts Guild donating $250.00 to the Veteran s Day Committee. There was discussion regarding the Chair Volleyball would be donating $200.00 to the Veteran s Day Committee. There was further discussion regarding the flyover. There was discussion regarding an announcement for the World War I families and veterans. 8. Adjournment 3
