Vision: The Red Cross Club will be a highly respected Registered Student Organization that will contribute to the community of Western Michigan University by offering volunteer opportunities and promoting humanitarian causes of the American Red Cross. Mission To work in conjunction with the American Red Cross Greater Kalamazoo Area Chapter, to promote training and group activities, to serve our community and our school. To develop positive leadership skills that will enhance and improve human relations. Article 1. - Name American Red Cross Club of Western Michigan University Article 2. Membership Any student enrolled at Western Michigan University that is willing to enhance their leadership skills to benefit the Western Michigan University community through Red Cross Club volunteer opportunities. Membership is open to all who believe in the mission of the Red Cross. Membership requirements; o o o Submit and clear a volunteer application and background check on Volunteer Connection Attend and complete a Red Cross volunteer orientation Complete 12 hours of volunteer services per year (including meeting time). Each member is entitled to vote on any issue confronting the club, assuming that s/he is an attending member. Presence is required to vote. Members must abide by all rules and regulations of Western Michigan University and the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross Club is committed to equality and diversity as such no individual will be denied membership because of race, sex, religion, color, height, weight, age, handicap, national origin, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Article 3. Executive Board All officers must be members of the Red Cross Club, currently enrolled at Western Michigan University, and most importantly exemplify the fundamentals of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. Section I. Officer Positions All positions are to be held for a one-year term President 1-year term (2017-2018 President: Cody Benfant) Chapter liaison Club Spokesperson Supervisor of all board members and active club members Remain in contact with current staff at Greater Kalamazoo Red Cross Attend to any and all paper work issues (i.e. club registration) Direct all new volunteers to the VP in which their interests reside Vice President of Disaster Relief 1-year term (2017-2018 Vice President: Hunter Marsh) Recruit students to the disaster relief centers on campus. Attend a disaster relief center class Service to the Armed Forces/Fund Raising 1-year term (2017-2018 Service to the Armed Forces/Fund Raising: N/A) Coordinate all aspects of events for the armed forces and international humanitarian law Work with the university agencies to obtain funding and support for the RCC. Vice President of Health and Safety Training and Education 1-year term (2017-2018 Vice President: N/A) Teach Citizen CPR for at least one group per semester Coordinate health and safety training and education on campus for the ARC Recruit students to CPR, First Aid, Babysitting, Lifeguarding, online, and other Red Cross courses Vice President of Blood Services 1-year term (2017-2018 Vice President: Alexandra Morris) Coordinate all blood drives on campus if assistance is requested Run at least one blood drive per semester Recruit students to volunteer at blood drives Recruit donors to blood drives Recruit sponsors for blood drives Secretary/PR 1-year term (2017-2018 Secretary/PR: Kimberly Mitchell) Take minutes of each meeting and send an electronic copy to members Obtain necessary permissions for all media interactions Produce materials and actions necessary to publicize the club, including all radio, television, newspaper, online, and physical advertisements Respond to all official correspondence or forward it to the appropriate party by monitoring e-mail and physical mail Work with all other officers to achieve their objectives using public relations techniques
Treasurer/WSA Representative 1-year term (2017-2018 Treasurer/WSA Rep: N/A) File for grants and allocations for which the RCC is eligible Attend University Financial Workshops with President Attend all WSA and CAB meetings All positions that are currently N/A will be voted on at the first meeting of the fall semester. Until that time, it is the President s responsibility to fulfill all roles. Section II.-Elections Members of the Club will nominate and elect the officers of the executive board by having a plurality vote. Elections will occur near the end of the spring semester (date to be determined by a majority vote by the current Executive Board) and take effect the following the completion of the spring semester. The vote will take place during a general meeting after discussion. Each active club member will have one vote. Votes will be submitted/tallied online using the GoRSO system, which will be available throughout the day of the general assembly vote to all active members. The members may also impeach an executive member by having more than two-thirds of the majority vote. If an officer resigns, he/she must write a letter of resignation to the Club. Terms of service will be one year, unless e-board member is unchallenged at the time of elections, at which point he/she will be asked to remain in position. At this time, said e-board member has the option to resign or accept another year in said position. Article 4. Finances The Red Cross Club - WMU Chapter will follow and be subject to all University policies, procedures, and practices regarding student organization accounts and finances. Any decision that involves the use of funds must be voted upon by e-board and be approved by the financial chair and president. Any event that the Club facilitates must receive prior approval from the Greater Kalamazoo Area Red Cross. The financial books and records will be audited at least once a year by the current Financial Chair. The President and Treasurer are responsible for financial matters and will attend University financial workshops as required. If the American Red Cross Club of WMU dissolves or is inactive, all funds will be donated to the Greater Kalamazoo Area Red Cross Chapter.
The Red Cross Club WMU Chapter will use PNC Bank for all funds. If the Red Cross Club - WMU Chapter ceases to exist in the future, all funds left in financial accounts will be given to the Greater Kalamazoo Area Red Cross. Article 5. Statement of Compliance The Red Cross Club - WMU Chapter will comply with all Student Activities and Leadership Programs (SALP) and University policies, procedures, and practices and all local, state, and federal laws. The Red Cross Club - WMU Chapter will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, protected disability, veteran status, height, weight, or marital status. The President will be designated to complete and follow-through on the requirements for the registration process as set forth by SALP. Article 6. Meetings General meetings will be held bi-weekly to work on upcoming events and discuss volunteer opportunities. Each elected official will speak about the progress of his or her current projects. Executive board meetings of all elected officials will be held monthly to coordinate major projects and relay information back the Greater Kalamazoo Red Cross Chapter. Article 7. Amendments Amendments may be made to this document by a super majority vote of the general membership. If the vote passes, it will be the responsibility of the elected officials to coordinate a special meeting, open to all members, to make the voted changes or to rewrite the constitution which will have to be approved by the Greater Kalamazoo Area Red Cross. Article 8. Bylaws Future bylaws may be added if deemed necessary during future revisions of this constitution.
Potential members, non-arc volunteers, have four meetings to provide completed applications. An active member is defined as a fully-registered and cleared American Red Cross volunteer who has participated in at least one event and attended at least one meeting, or is elected to a position as an officer.
