The cafeteria is opened from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm. A self-service cafeteria is situated on the ground floor of the UNHCR Building. The cafeteria is opened from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Banks A bank is situated at the WTO building, rue de Lausanne, down the street from the WMO building. Currency exchanges and other services are available from Monday to Friday. A Bank is situated on Chemin Louis- Dunant, 17. Currency exchanges and other services are available from Monday to Friday. Working hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (without interruption). Medical services In case of emergency, please call extension 55 20. The services of a nurse are available to participants from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The medical service is on the ground floor of the UNHCR. (Extension 7011). 2
Postal service The nearest post office is situated at the UN Headquarters (door 6), 10 minutes walking distance up the road from WMO, A post office is situated to the left of the rue de Varembé entrance to the CICG. Working hours: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 06:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday) and 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Saturday). Travel services The American Express Travel Agency (ground floor of the WMO building), extension 80 15, for flight booking and confirmation. The WMO Travel Unit (Room 1J98, 1st floor, WMO Secretariat) for the payment of travel expenses. It is opened from Monday to Friday (9 to 12 a.m. and 2 to 4.30 p.m.). The Travel Unit is closed on Saturdays. The American Express Travel Agency (ground floor of the UNHCR building), extensions 7001, 7002 and 7003, is available to arrange excursions, hotel reservations and other services. The office hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Smoking The entire WMO building is a smokefree environment. The UNHCR is a smokefree environment. TRAVEL INFORMATION 5. Language, Currency and Credit Cards: The languages spoken in Switzerland are French/Swiss German and Swiss Italian. The currency used is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept internationally valid credit cards. 6. Climate: The average temperature in March is between 1 and 10 C, or 34 and 50 F. The average precipitation is 81 mm. 7. Time Zone: Switzerland follows Central European Time, which is Universal Coordinated Time + 1, during the period of the session. 8. Electricity: The electric voltage is 220V 50 Hz, power sockets used in Swiss standard adapters (from USA to Swiss or Europe to Swiss, UK to Swiss). 9. Shopping: Shops are opened on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m; on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Shops are closed on Sundays. E. ARRIVAL AT THE GENEVA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (COINTRIN) 10. The airport is located at nearly 4 km from Geneva city centre. It is easily reachable by train or by bus using the public transport system (Unireso). Only one single ticket is required to travel by train, tram, bus or boat in the area France-Vaud-Geneva. 11. Tourist information and tickets can be obtained at the Unireso information counter in the Arrivals hall of the airport, on the leaving customs control. Tickets can also be purchased from the machines located at bus stops (CHF or Euro change required) and at the Swiss railway station. 12.
