VISA INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS Schengen Visa A Schengen Visa is the document issued by the appropriate authorities to the interested party for visiting/travelling to and within the Schengen Area. The Schengen Area is comprised of 26 countries that have agreed to allow free movement of their citizens within this area as a single country. Of the 26 countries bound by the Schengen agreement, 22 are part of the European Union (EU) and the other four are part of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The Schengen area covers the majority of European countries, except for the United Kingdom and countries such as Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Ireland soon to be part of the agreement. However, there are countries that are not part of the EU like Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein yet do belong in the Schengen Area and cherish the free movement policy. For more information, visit http://www.schengenvisainfo.com. Tourist Visa (90 days) A tourist visa is an authorization from the designated country/countries within the Schengen Area to travel in the designated Schengen country/countries for pleasure or to visit relatives living in the Schengen Area. As a U.S. passport holder, you may stay in the Schengen Area as a tourist for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Student Visa A student visa is a genuine authorization from the government of the designated country issued to students who are already accepted at a certified educational establishment. The holder of this type of visa is allowed to study in the country from which it is issued. Student Visa for Spain - Fall 2017 All students planning to enroll in the Europe Program for Fall 2017-17 MUST apply and obtain a Spanish student visa. Student Visa for Italy - Spring 2018 Unless you have a student visa from Spain for 180 days, you will need to apply for a student visa from Italy in order to attend the Europe 2 program in Spring 2018. Normally, the Spanish Consulate grants a student visa for 120 days, which will cover the period of time of the Europe 1 program. If this is the case, which you will know when you receive your passport and visa from the Spanish Consulate, YOU WILL HAVE TO RETURN TO THE U.S. IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR AN ITALIAN STUDENT VISA. One may apply for a student visa from Italy from the consulate that services their residential region in their country of residence. 2.13.18

If the Consulate of Spain chooses to issue a 180-day visa, you will be able to complete the Europe 2 program without having to apply for a student visa from Italy. You will know the length of your student visa ONLY when you receive your passport with the visa from the Spanish Consulate. Your student visa from Spain will allow you to travel in the Schengen region. When it expires, you will be able to continue to travel in the Schengen region without a visa for up to 90 days.
