WUSC was incorporated, in 1957, as a non-profit organization focused on human development and global understanding through education and training. WUSC has acquired the expertise, credibility and capacity for innovation needed to bring about sustainable improvements in the lives and communities of youth in the developing world. We have achieved solid results in the areas of education, skills-training, livelihoods, refugee resettlement and gender equality through our long-term presence in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Today, WUSC is uniquely positioned to match the skills and experience of Canadians with the goals of our partner organizations overseas to ensure sustainable development outcomes.
OUR APPROACH We strengthen the participation of marginalized and disadvantaged people in their communities. We respect and honour the contributions of our partners, members, volunteers and staff. We help local partners build their knowledge and skills to support the development of their own communities. We build accountability measures into all of our initiatives and provide comprehensive reports for all our work. We uphold the highest standards in international cooperation, adhering to the Canadian Council for International Cooperation s Code of Ethics, the Istanbul Principles (for civil society) and the principles of the International Volunteer Cooperation Organization, among others.
