ON ARRIVAL IN BERLIN Registering at the Registration Office (Bürgeramt) 1. Students coming from European countries: On arrival in Berlin, international students coming from countries, which are part of the European Union, have to register at the Bürgeramt (Registration Office), within the first days after moving into an apartment or student residence. After the registration you will receive a confirmation letter called Anmeldebestätigung, which you may need to open a bank account or to use other public services. Each district of Berlin has three to four Bürgerämter, but you can go to anyone in Berlin, regardless of where you live. It is important to make an online appointment 1 to 2 month before you arrive in Berlin. Please take the following documents with you: Application Form (Anmeldung bei der Meldebehörde pdf-file ) Valid Passport or ID card Rental agreement (Einzugsbestätigung des Wohnungsgebers) to be completed by the landlord You may also need the following documents: University Admission Notification Statement of financial sponsorship/scholarship letter or bank statement proving sufficient funds to support your educational stay. An account has to be opened at a German bank. 2. Students coming from countries outside Europe All students coming from countries outside Europe are required to apply for a visa at the German embassy or consulate in their home country. Up-to-date information on visa requirements is given by the local German embassy. Additional information can be found on the website of the German Federal Foreign Office: http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/einreiseundaufenthalt/visabestimmungen_node.html Even though international students obtain a visa in their home countries they might need to register at the Immigration Office called Ausländerbehörde within 90 days after arrival or before their entry visa has expired (German embassy at home country will inform you). The Immigration Office is exceptionally busy, so we strongly recommend making an appointment 1-2 month BEFORE. Step by Step Information: Registering at the Registration Office (Bürgeramt) - Making an appointment: 1. Go to the following website: https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/120686/. Klick on Termin buchen. You can either book an appointment all around Berlin, as you can see from the first screenshot Termin berlinweit suchen or go to a specific Bürgeramt close to your apartment, see the second screenshot.
2. You will see a Calander: You need to find a slot marked blue (means free): If everything is red klick on nächsten Monat. 3. Select the day marked in blue 4. You may see the times available. Klick on the time slot that suites you most.
Please enter your personal data. To klick on Termin eintragen book an appointment you have to mark Allgemeine Nutzungsbedingungen - terms of use before. They will ask you to check everything again, as you cannot make any changes after you have finished the process. You will receive an email with all the details of the appointment; therefore, please check your emails address twice! 5.
Applying for a student visa / extension of visa at the Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde)- Making an appointment: 1. Go to the following website https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/305244/en/ 2. At the end of the website you will find the button make an appointment!
3. Change the website into English and klick on book an appointment 4. Select the details requested such as: Citizenship
5. Follow the steps. 6. Select Residence for students from states outside the EU, EEA as well as Switzerland (sect.16 para 1)
7. On that page you will find some general information, the fees as well as the documents you need to bring to your appointment. In order to continue, you have to confirm that you have acknowledged the information by clicking on the little box below and on next.
8. Enter your personal data and click on next 9. A calendar appears. Search for a blue slot or click on next month 10. Select a time slot that is most suitable. 11. Review all your data and book the appointment
