Whereas the climate facing our LGBTQIA+ community continue to be prevalent on Winona State University s (WSU) campus, Whereas WSU continues to lack the resources to adequately support these students, Whereas WSU Student Senate (WSUSS) has previously supported and advocated for an LGBTQIA+ Resource Director, Be it resolved that the WSUSS urges President Olson and his Cabinet to reaffirm their commitment in supporting our LGBTQIA+ students by the prompt implementation of a LGBTQIA+ Resource Coordinator Recommendation: Passes c. Working Documents Committee Recommendation: Be it resolved that Article 2, Section 4, Subsection A(1b) be removed from the WSUSS Constitution. Be it further resolved that the following be amended to Article 2, Section 2, Subsection C of the WSUSS Constitution: 5. Director of Public Relations a. Shall be appointed by the President pending WSUSS confirmation b. Shall execute promotional campaigns for the WSUSS c. Shall oversee media correspondence and management of social media d. Whereas, the Smaug is set to be renovated over Summer 2017, Whereas, the renovation will bring two nationally recognized organizations two campus: Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks, Whereas, representatives from Chick-Fil-A are willing to come (Senator French) came to campus to address student concerns regarding past controversies surrounding their company, Whereas, Chick-Fil-A has since distanced themselves from said controversy Therefore be it resolved, WSUSS officially endorses the Smaug renovation as it currently stands, Be it further resolved, a representative from Chick-Fil-A come to campus to speak to various student groups and address valid concerns prior to summer renovations, Be it further resolved, a statement of inclusive excellence be released when Chick-Fil-A officially opens on campus.
