UN VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT Preamble: The United Natins Vlunteers (UNV) prgramme is the UN rganizatin that prmtes vlunteerism t supprt peace and develpment wrldwide. Vlunteerism can transfrm the pace and nature f develpment and it benefits bth sciety at large and the individual vlunteer. UNV cntributes t peace and develpment by advcating fr vlunteerism glbally, encuraging partners t integrate vlunteerism int develpment prgramming, and mbilizing vlunteers. In mst cultures vlunteerism is deeply embedded in lng-established, ancient traditins f sharing and supprt within the cmmunities. In this cntext, UN Vlunteers take part in varius frms f vlunteerism and play a rle in develpment and peace tgether with c-wrkers, hst agencies and lcal cmmunities. In all assignments, UN Vlunteers prmte vlunteerism thrugh their actin and cnduct. Engaging in vlunteer activity can effectively and psitively enrich their understanding f lcal and scial realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the peple in their hst cmmunity. Descriptin f tasks: Under the direct supervisin f the Prtectin Officer r Assciate Refugee Status Determinatin. Officer the natinal UN Vlunteer will undertake the fllwing tasks:

The Prtectin Assciate will perfrm frntline prtectin and peratinal supprt tasks as part f UNHCR s urban Juba refugee prtectin activities. The Prtectin Assciate s wrk will enable UNHCR Juba t enhance its understanding and mnitring f the prtectin gaps and needs f refugees and asylum-seekers in Juba, and t respnd t and assist individual cases in a grwing urban refugee peratin. S/he will wrk with bth the Prtectin (Refugee) and Cmmunity Services units, as well as UNHCR s partners, in urban Juba, Grm refugee camp, and the UNHCR Juba receptin center. The Prtectin Assciate will receive n-the-jb training fr frntline prtectin casewrk, and will be expected t develp specialized prtectin skills (such as refugee status determinatin, sexual and gender-based vilence respnse and preventin, and resettlement) as part f nging effrts t develp versatile and well-runded frntline prtectin staff. Specific tasks perfrmed by the UN Vlunteer will include: Identify, interview, and assess refugees and asylum-seekers with specific prtectin needs r vulnerabilities in urban Juba and Grm Cnduct hme visits t refugees and asylum-seekers and undertake vulnerability assessments recmmending the apprpriate prtectin interventin Hld prtectin cunselling sessins at the UNHCR Juba receptin centers fr refugees and asylum-seekers with prtectin queries Liaise with and cnduct regular visits t ccupants f the Prtectin wing at the UNHCR safehuse in Juba and fllw-up n their needs and cncerns Refer prtectin cases t the apprpriate prtectin actrs fr fllw-up, including fr assistance r services Prvide prtectin supprt t registratin activities at the receptin center and Grm. Dcument prtectin casewrk using standard frms and filing physical and electrnic cpies in accrdance with prcedures Create and maintain individual physical and electrnic case files fr prtectin cases in UNHCR Juba s physical and electrnic filing system. Prvide supprt t refugee status determinatin and resettlement activities, including fr interview scheduling, departure arrangements, and ntificatin f decisins. Undertake any ther tasks as necessary t supprt refugee prtectin activities in Juba Furthermre, UN Vlunteers are required t: Strengthen their knwledge and understanding f the cncept f vlunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publicatins and take active part in UNV activities (fr instance in events that mark IVD); Be acquainted with and build n traditinal and/r lcal frms f vlunteerism in the hst cuntry; Reflect n the type and quality f vluntary actin that they are undertaking, including participatin in nging reflectin activities; Cntribute articles/write-ups n field experiences and submit them fr UNV publicatins/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; Assist with the UNV Buddy Prgramme fr newly-arrived UN Vlunteers; Prmte r advise lcal grups in the use f nline vlunteering, r encurage relevant lcal individuals and rganizatins t use the UNV Online Vlunteering service whenever technically pssible.

11. Results/Expected Output: Written individual prtectin assessments and referrals fr urban refugees and asylum-seekers as needed. Once-weekly prtectin cunselling sessins at UNHCR Juba receptin area (per NUNV), with indivudal cunseling frms cmpleted and referrals made where necessary Hme visits and written prtectin/vulnerability assessments fr cases, including refugees and asylum-seekers with specific needs, as needed. Back-up supprt t receptinist duties when receptinist is absent, as needed Prvisin f regular fcal pint fr individual refugee/asylum-seeker files in prpsed filing rm n rtatinal basis Prtectin sreenings fr cmplex cases referred frm registratin activites, as needed Cmpletin f n-the-jb training in ne r mre specialized skill: SGBV respnse, refugee status determinatin, resettlement The abve utputs will enhance UNHCR s awareness f the prtectin needs and situatin amng urban Juba refugees and asylum-seekers, and reinfrce UNHCR s ability t undertake effective prtectin interventins and uphld the rights f persns f cncern in Juba. Outputs aimed at strengthening UNHCR s peratinal supprt systems will imprve cnsistency f and expedite interventins. A final statement f achievements twards vlunteerism fr develpment during the assignment, such as reprting n the number f vlunteers mbilized, activities participated in and capacities develped. 12. Living Cnditins: The highly recmmended vaccinatin in Suth Sudan is Yellw Fever. Please nte that withut evidence f yellw fever vaccinatin, access t Suth Sudan is restricted. Suth Sudan is Security Phase III level. There is a UN impsed curfew frm 7:00pm t 6:00am due t security and crime issues. The widely used currency fr business transactin is the Suth Sudan Punds (SSP). The fficial exchange rate is currently at 100.00 SSP t the USD. Banking facilities are widely available but the use f bank credit and debit cards is limited. There are several mbile telephne cmpanies including ZAIN, Vivacell, Gemtel & MTN prviding services and sim cards can be easily bught with cash after registratin by the Service prvider. There are n fixed telephne lines in Suth Sudan/Juba. Suth Sudan electricity n the natinal grid is almst nn-existent as it s switched n nce in a while. The Capital Juba is pwered by individual husehld generatrs. Running wa-ter is dependent n water tankers that deliver water t husehlds at a fee. UN regulatins state that huses f staff members must have electricity and re-imburses these csts in-curred utside the accmmdatin rental cst.

UN persnnel are prvided medical services in the UN Agency clinic. Other medical services can be btained at the UNMISS Level 2 hspital 15. Cnditins f Service fr natinal UN Vlunteers A 12 mnth cntract; with subsequent cntract extensins subject t availability f funding, peratinal necessity and satisfactry perfrmance. Hwever, there is n expectatin f renewal f the assignment. Travel t duty statin (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be prvided in the event duty statin is nt within cmmuting distance frm the place f recruitment. A Vlunteer Living Allwance (VLA) f $1,167.00 is prvided mnthly t cver nrmal cst f living expenses, husing, utilities, and Well Being Differential. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance fr up t 3 dependents), as well as final repatriatin (if applicable) and resettlement allwance fr satisfactry service. UNV will prvide, tgether with the ffer f assignment, a cpy f the Cnditins f Service, including Cde f cnduct, t the successful candidate.
