Court Cases Ewing v. California (01-6978) 538 U. S. 11 (2003). In her decision for the Court, Justice Sandra Day O Connor referenced research co-author Edward J. Erler and I conducted on crime policy. Our research is cited in an amicus curiae brief filed with the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Ewing v. California. This brief was filed by the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, et al. on June 19, 2002. Expert witness. I was an expert witness for the defendants in the civil trial Kerr v. Orange County, which was heard by the Orange County Superior Court and the California Court of Appeal. The case involved the constitutionality of the Orange County charter. I testified that the special election provisions in the Orange County charter are consistent with the principles municipal home rule. The defendants won the case. December 2002-January 2003. During my time as advisor, our chapter was recognized as one of the nation s best. Our chapter won seven national awards during my time as advisor. AWARDS Senior Thesis Award, 2006. I was the thesis advisor for Mario Botkin. Mr. Botkin s Senior Thesis, A Prodigious Time: Rethinking Containment in the War on Terror won the Dean s Award for Best Senior Thesis in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino.
