INDONESIAN DARMASISWA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013 DARMASISWA is non-degree scholarship program offered by the government of the Republic of Indonesia to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia. The main purpose of the DARMASISWA program is to promote Indonesian language and culture to foreign countries. The scholarship program covers study of Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language), traditional arts, traditional art crafting, tourism, culinary and other studies on selected issues such as Islamic studies in Indonesia, Environment, Indonesian Politics and Southeast Asia Economy. Participant can choose one of 53 universities/higher education institution located in different cities in Indonesia. I. Darmasiswa scholarship Program is conducted in 3 schemes : Regular 1 (One) Year Program. Regular one year program is a one year scholarship program offered to foreign students to study Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language) or local language, Indonesian traditional dances, Indonesian traditional music, traditional art crafting, culinary, tourism and other field of studies at selected Indonesian higher education institutions for one year. Regular 6 (six) months Program. Regular six-month program is a six-months scholarship program offered to foreign students to study Bahasa Indonesia and other field of studies at selected Indonesian higher education institutions for six months. Regular 3 ( three) months Program (summer course) Regular three months program is a three months scholarship program offered to foreign students to study on selected issues at selected Indonesian higher education institutions for three months. II. Participant rights and obligations : Rights : a. Participant will receive scholarship (free tuition fee) and monthly allowance. b. Participant will be assisted by the chosen university/place of study in arranging accommodation. c. The organizing committee will provide transport arrangement upon arrival of the participant at the airport. Obligations : 1
a. Willing to assist university/higher education institution in learning foreign language or other academic activities. b. Participant must complete the program. c. Sign a declaration form ( statement on code of conduct) provided by the Indonesian Embassy before departure to Indonesia, and delcaration form provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia upon arrival in Indonesia. III.Schedule. a. Candidate s application shall be submitted to the Indonesian Embassy by mid February 2012 at the latest. b. Administrative selection shall be conducted in the March 2012. c. Academic selection shall be conducted in mid April 2012. d. The selection result shall be announced by the end of April 2012. e. Confirmation from participant should be received by the Embassy by the end of May 2012 at the latest. f. Arrival of participant in Indonesia is scheduled in the beginning of August 2012. g. Orientation program shall be conducted in the beginning of August 2012. h. Class schedules as follows : o Regular 3 months program, shall be conducted in the beginning of June 2012 - August 2012. o Regular 6 months program shall be conducted in the beginning of August 2012 - January 2013. o Regular 1 year program shall be conducted in the beginning of August 2012 - July 2013. For participant who will study at the University of Indonesia, program shall be conducted in the end of July 2012. IV. Visa. Participant of Darmasiswa Program is required to have a social cultural visa (VKSB), issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant's country of residence. Upon arrival in Indonesia, participant's passport has to be submitted to the organizing committee/ministry of Education and Culture for necessary arrangement in obtaining stay permit. Participant is prohibited to use a Tourist Visa or On-Arrival Visa for study purpose. V. Scholarship. a. Free tuition fee. b. Participant will also receive Rp.2.000.000,- ( two million Rupiah) per month with details as follows : Living cost : Rp. 1.200.000,- Book Allowance : Rp. 200.000,- Local Transport : Rp. 200.000,- Health : Rp. 200.000,- Pocket money : Rp. 200.000,- 1 USD = Rp.8.950,- 2
Since the scholarship allowance is limited, participant is advised to bring additional /extra money in US Dollar. VI. Applicant Requirements Applicant must meet the following requirements : a. Age limit : 35 years or less. b. Minimum education : completed higher secondary level of education. c. In good health. d. Able to communicate in English or Bahasa (Indonesian Language). e. Participant should have basic knowledge of the chosen subject. VII. Document requirements. a. Completed application form. b. Copy of the latest academic transcript. c. Copy of academic certificate. d. Letter of recommendation from the latest place of study. e. In good health, as proved by Medical Certificate/Doctor. f. Color Photograph 4x6 cm ( 5 pieces). g. Copy of Passport which is still valid for at least 18 months at the time of arrival in Indonesia. h. Recommendation letter from Indonesian Embassy. The government of the Republic of Indonesia does not provide international air tickets for participant of the Darmasiswa program. Participant must seek his/her 3
own source(s) of funds for international travel from and to his/her country of origin. The government will bear local transportation cost for participant who will study at university outside Jakarta ( one way, Jakarta - place of study). IX. Health Insurance. The government of the Republic of Indonesia does not provide health insurance. Participant is advised to arrange his/her own international health insurance. X.
