340 LABOUR/LE TRAVAIL REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT JAMES NAYLOR reported on the successes and accomplishments of various CCLH members, who have secured academic appointments and honours, delivered annual lectures, and won various prizes. A revised draft of the CCLH constitution was presented, discussion ensued, and consensus reached. The composition of the graduate and undergraduate committees of the Forsey Prize evaluation process was discussed, with the graduate committee to remain in place and an undergraduate committee to be elected. At the 2000 Learned Societies meetings, the CCLH is considering reconvening the workshop on labour studies, and the President is contacting individuals at Athabasca University, Edmonton, to make arrangements. M/S/C: That the constitution be accepted. M/S/C: That Chris Burr, Deborah Stiles, and a francophone labour historian to be contacted at a later date constitute the undergraduate awards committee of the Forsey Prize. REPORT OF THE TREASURER GREGORY S. KEALEY presented the financial report. M/S/C: That the received financial report be accepted. REPORT OF THE EDITOR BRYAN D. PALMER reported on the state of the journal, the success of the SSHRC aid-to-scholarly publications grant submission, other grant applications, ongoing work to revive lapsed subscriptions, the prognosis for future issues, including a special Millennium publication, and other matters. OTHER BUSINESS CECILIA DANYSK called attention to the interest of the Association of Canadian Studies in securing labour-related papers for their November 1999 annual conference, to be held in Pittsburgh, Those interested in presenting papers should contact Cecilia Danysk at danysk@hotmail.com. There may be modest funding available for graduate students whose papers are accepted for presentation.

342 LABOUR/LE TRAVAIL PREAMBLE: CONSTITUTION OF THE CANADIAN COMMITTEE ON LABOUR HISTORY The Canadian Committee on Labour History is open to anybody interested in studying and promoting all aspects of working-class and labour history. The Committee defines working-class and labour history in the broadest terms and encourages study of working-class communities, culture, ethnicity, family life, gender, sexuality, migration, ideology, politics, and organization. It recognizes the value of a diversity of disciplinary and theoretical approaches to the study of history and encourages open and active discussion and debate. As well, it aims to encourage the inclusion of working-class history in school curricula, through institutions of public history, and within the educational programs of labour and community organizations. ARTICLE i: NAME The name of the organization is the Canadian Committee on Labour History (CCLH). ARTICLE ii: PURPOSE The purpose of the organization shall be the promotion of labour and working-class history. Activities of die CCLH shall be carried on, according to Revenue Canada Guidelines, without purpose of gain for its members, and any profits or other accretions to the Committee shall be used solely to promote its objectives. ARTICLE IIL AFFILIATIONS The CCLH is a sub-committee of the Canadian Historical Association. ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP The membership includes all current, individual subscribers of the journal of the association: Labour/Le Travail. ARTICLE V: ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Final authority resides in the membership of the CCLH as exercised in the Annual General Meeting (AGM). This meeting is normally held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Canadian Historical Association. Under no circumstances can an Annual General Meeting be delayed beyond eighteen months of the previous

MINUTES 343 ACM. Between Annual General Meetings, authority is vested in the Executive Committee of the CCLH, which is elected by the Annual General Meeting. ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Executive Committee, elected annually by the AGM, consists of the following officers. a) President: The President must chair the Annual General Meeting, supervise and report on all activities of the CCLH, and represent the Committee publicly. b) Vice-President: The Vice-President assists the President in her/his duties and substitutes for the President if she/he is unable to perform the duties of the presidency. c) Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for maintaining the minutes of Committee. Said minutes shall be published in Labour/Le Travail. d) Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the Committee and shall report such to the Annual General Meeting. e) Editor: The Editor is responsible for the journal, Labour/Le Travail, is part of the Executive Committee, but is selected by the editorial board of the journal. ARTICLE VIL OTHER COMMITTEES a) Publications Committee: The Publications Committee is responsible for publications (other dian Labour/Le Travail). This committee consists of at least three members elected by the Annual General Meeting or by the Executive Committee. It elects its own Chair, who is responsible for reporting activities to the CCLH Executive Committee. b) Prize Committees: The Prize Committees will chose winners of prizes sponsored by the CCLH, such as the Eugene A. Forsey Prizes. Each committee will consist of at least three members, elected by the Annual General Meeting or by the Executive Committee. They will elect their own Chair, who is responsible for reporting activities to the CCLH Executive Committee. ARTICLE VIII: AMENDMENTS The By-Laws of the Committee may be amended by a two-thirds vote of those attending the Annual General Meeting.
