It is requested that names not be used in public settings to address an issue of concern. Names only to be used when meeting with staff and administration. This portion of the meeting is set aside for members of the audience to make comments or raise issues that are not specifically on the agenda or for those that are on the agenda. 4.0 Information Items 4.1 Student/Recognition/Staff Reports IB Students High School Leadership/Dean Report Middle School Leadership/Dean Report Elementary School Leadership/Dean Report Middle School/High School College Clubs 4.2 Parent, Teacher, Student Organization Mrs. Jamie Ybarra President We had another successful See's Candy fundraiser in April. Sold Spirit Sticks at Multicultural Night Hosted teacher/staff appreciation luncheon on May 9th Scholarship committee chose 5 recipients for PTSA scholarship. Each scholarship is for $400 and will be presented to recipients at Scholarship Award Ceremony on May 30th. Field Day planning is in full swing for Elementary on June 7th and Kinder on June 8th. 4.3 PAC Parent Advisory Committee/SAC School Advisory Committee Mrs. Jeanette Juarez Administrative Dean Our May SAC/PAC meeting consisted of our group attending the presentation by our guest speaker Opal Singleton who is the president and CEO of Million Kids. Opal discussed many issues regarding human trafficking and exploitation that most members of our community were not aware of. Opal discussed how easy it is for predators to reach young teenagers and children via internet by befriending them. Mrs. Singleton gave us some very helpful hints of how to protect our children and what signs to look for in our children/students. She also spoke about her book "Seduced; The Grooming of America's Teenagers" which gives parents an inside look and tips on how to speak to their children. 4.4 Guidance and Academic Counseling Update Ms. Andrea Perez Counselor The departments calendar and Senior activities are both posted on the SJVA website. 2
4.5 Sports Program Update Mr. Charles Ilardi Athletic Department Went to CIF playoffs and battled against Gladstone High School (Enrollment 1100+ students) with a final score of 7-5. Team held a lead going into the 4th inning but a couple of key errors let Gladstone back in the game. Late rally by SJVA in the bottom of the 7th but fell short. Great Team Work! Kana Lesa advanced to the second round of the Track and Field division 4 for shot put and finished 6th overall. Track team very Successful. See attached. 4.6 Personnel Update Mr. Paul Huynh Vice President 4.7 April Financial Report Mr. Paul Huynh Vice President 4.8 Preliminary Budget 2017-2018 Mr. Paul Huynh Vice President 4.9 Month 9 Attendance Report Mrs. Jeannette Juarez Administrative Dean Attendance audit went well and no issues according to the auditor. As of today, we don t have results for attendance until the whole audit is completed and that will be next fall. 4.10 International Baccalaureate Program Mr. Jonathan Harrison IB Diploma Program Dean Student interviews for application for participation and the IB World Student Conference will be held at the end of May and the first week of June, for Rochester, New York, and Kings College, London. Students will be incoming Juniors and or Seniors. 4.11 LCAP Update-New State Accountability System Mrs. Michele Corpuz Assessment Director LCAP The draft of the 2017-2020 LCAP is being presented for review and feedback. The finalized LCAP will be presented at the June 7 th board meeting for Final Approval. 3
4.12 Prop 39 Proposal - The California Clean Energy Jobs Act Mrs. Michele Corpuz Assessment Director Prop 39 Revised Prop 39 proposal includes the school board suggestions made at the May 13 th meeting. Suggestions include networking the AC controls, installing new energy efficient HVAC units on all classrooms, or installing skylights on classrooms. 4.13 Kinder Center Report Ms. Amy Juarez Office Secretary SJVA Kindergarten Center has surpassed their reading goal of 7,500 books read. As of May 19th, students have read 9,300 books! As the year comes to an end, we are all hard at work preparing for benchmark testing and end of year festivities. Kindergarten students will be recognized in a promotion ceremony on June 5th.
