Connecticut Junior Soccer Association Board of Directors Meeting September 11, 2017 Board of Directors in attendance: Mary Kay Brophy, Dave Brouillette, Maggie Girard, Bob Goldman, Brian Grindrod, Tom Hayden, Michael Moriarty, Ron Packard, Corrado Perugini, Dave Rodriguez Board of Directors in attendance via conference call: Joe Filippetti, Chafik Rebai Also present: Andrea Duffy, Gerald Garlick, Sue Schultz, Joe Zizik Absent: Al Bell, Joe Guerra, Kurt Jacob, Brett Jones, Milan Keser, Josh Krusewski, Tom Mattera, Mario Prata Call of Order: Since Joe Guerra and Chafik Rebai were not present at the start of the meeting, Brian Grindrod. CJSA Secretary, called the meeting to order at 7:15pm. Joe Zizik requested that his report be moved the top of the agenda. The request was granted. Registration: The updated registration numbers for the year ending 2016-2017 were in the meeting packet. Zizik questioned why clubs are still not registering all of their recreational players. The clubs that are piloting the program start next week. The committee co-chaired by Tom Hayden and Bob Goldman will be tasked in developing a plan for the AGM and Spring 2018 on how to roll-out the new system for 2018-2019. The goal is to go live next year.
Executive Session: Tom Hayden motioned for the meeting to go into Executive Session. Mary Kay Brophy seconded the motion. All were in favor of the motion; no one was against or abstained. The motion passed unanimously. The Executive Session started at 7:30pm. The Executive Session ended at 8:21pm. Update to Board of Directors membership: Joe Guerra resigned as CJSA President due to personal reasons effective immediately and will resign as CJSA Immediate Past President on September 12, 2017. Chafik Rebai (CJSA First Vice President) will fill in as CJSA President on an interim basis until the Board of Directors appoints a new CJSA President to complete the current term (ending January 2019). Maggie Girard (former CJSA Immediate Past President) was named Central District Representative. Dave Rodriguez (former SCD Representative) was elected South Central District Vice President at their August annual meeting. Joe Conte stepped down from the position. Since Rebai was attending via conference call, he allowed Grindrod to continue to run the meeting. Minutes: The minutes from the July 10, 2017 Board of Director s meeting were approved without modification. Monthly Financial Statement: Mary Kay Brophy motioned to approve the monthly financial statements. Corrado Perugini seconded the motion. All were in favor of the motion; no one was against or abstained. The motion passed unanimously. Michael Moriarty presented an update on the Finance Governance Committee. Committee Reports: Fall 2017 Connecticut Cup: 433 Teams entered and 428 Teams are playing compared to 440 Teams that entered in 2016. age groups will start a week earlier due to the number of teams in the bracket. Those teams will be notified. Also, teams playing the weekend of Yom Kippur are asked to be respectful of the Jewish holiday and play those games on Sunday, October 1, 2017. The finals will be hosted by Simsbury Soccer Club on November 4, 2017. Re-occurring Tournaments: The following tournaments have been approved. South Windsor Fall Classic October 28-29, 2017 SCOR Columbus Day October 7-8, 2017 Columbia-Windham Columbus Day October 7-8, 2017 Lebanon Fall Classic September 30-October 1, 2017 Director of Coaching: Mario Prata was absent but provided a written report for the past two months. State Youth Referee Administrator Report: Ron Packard asked if CJSA can work with CSRP in sharing referee expenses for Region 1 events. Every year there are three tournaments that CSRP has to provide referees. CSRP has paid $20,000 over the past three years in expenses. It was asked if CSRP would be willing to pay for referee background checks. Moriarty will work with Packard and Judy Whelan on getting CSRP s recent 9090 and financial statements. Packard noted that the new referee courses are ending this month and will resume this winter and referee recertification is currently open until the end of November. Executive Director Report: Josh Krusewski was absent as he was attending a US Youth Soccer Workshop in San Diego. His report was attached, but he wanted to thank those clubs who attended and BOD and CJSA Staff who participated in the President and Registrar s Meeting on August 27, 2017. He provided a draft plan and recommendations for recreation and premier leagues which will be looked at during the next BOD meeting. Old Business: Investment and Financial Policies: This was tabled to next month s meeting. New Business: YPDP Director: Mario Prata recommended that Steven Carnerio be named as the new YPDP Director. Mary Kay Brophy motioned to approve Steven Carnerio as the new YPDP Director. Maggie Girard seconded the motion. All were in favor of the motion; no one was against or abstained. The motion passed unanimously.
Clubs Not Re-affiliating for 2017-2018: The following clubs did not re-affiliate with CJSA as of the August 31, 2017 deadline. Farmington Valley Soccer Club (North Central District) Valeo Futbol Club (North Central District) Beachside Soccer Club (Southwest District) 2017-2018 Budget: Moriarty said that Terry Gillan and himself are in the process of closing out the fiscal year and working on completing the budget. The budget format is in the process of being changed to focus on larger items, including registration income and coaching education. There will be section for futsal, Dave Rodriguez will work with Moriarty to develop the budget. The office staff budget is being finalized. The budget continues to be in the works and will be voted on during the October meeting. Maggie Girard motioned that Chafik Rebai and Josh Krusewski continue to operate CJSA under the 2016-2017 budget pending a new budget. Tom Hayden seconded the motion. All were in favor of the motion; no one was against or abstained. The motion passed unanimously. Moriarty wants dialogue from all Board members regarding the budget. Contact him via email with any questions or concerns over the next few weeks regarding the budget process. 2017-2018 Committees: The current committee appointments provided some updates from BOD membership will remain the same. President s Remarks: Rebai said he needs to speak with Krusewski and Moriarty regarding all the contracts and their financial obligations going forward. The motion passed unanimously. Discussion or Questions by the BOD: Corrado Perugini raised questions and concerns about the level and quality of play in the premier leagues. He was referred to the Executive Director draft policy regarding new state-
sponsored leagues and tournaments. Items/Motions/Discussion for Next Month: Investment Policy and Financial Policy 2017-2018 Budget Update on Blue Star Pilot Program and Marketing Strategy Good of the Game: Thank you to Newington Soccer Club and NYCFC for hosting a youth clinic on Sunday, September 10, 2017 to approximately 80 players. NYCFC will be playing the Houston Dynamo in a regular season MLS match at Rentschler Field on September 23, 2017. Tickets are available. Thank you to Joe Conte for his years of service as the South Central District Vice President. With all business being concluded, the meeting adjourned at 9:26pm.
