President's Message It s been a beautiful fall and it s been great to see so many of our members out and about in their Model A s (and modern iron too when the A s don t cooperate!). There was a very good turnout at the second, combined Meadowlark/Cornhusker Fall Picnic. The Loess Hills tour was filled with awesome scenery, good looking cars, plentiful food and lively conversations. Thanks to the Rand s for lining up another successful Loess Hills tour. The While Elephant sale is during the October General Meeting. You may just find something that you can t live without. And you never know what might actually be in the white elephant. There are many events yet to come this year, so take time to check out the Upcoming Activities and mark them on your calendar. Also, if you have any ideas for activities or come across something that you think the club might want to do, be sure to suggest them to your Board members. Keep the wheels rolling, Doug Volume 46, Issue 10 Meadowlark Model A Ford Club, Omaha, NE October 2014 Special Points of Interest: Calendar Events Upcoming Events Birthdays and Anniversaries Hen's Nest Our September meeting was very interesting thanks to Nancy Hanshaw. She gave a talk on the Amish. It was really great and we learned a lot about them that I didn't know. We also had a lot of questions for her. Thank You Nancy. A number of people brought her grocery bags for the mat project. If you have any extra plastic grocery bags bring them to the meetings for Nancy. I don't have anything else to report and we won't be having a Hen's nest in October because we will be having the white elephant sale. Remember to bring all those things you can live without. Food items are a great item too. Anne
September Activities Meadowlark/Cornhusker Picnic September 13th Volume 46, Issue 10 Drive Your Model A Day September 13th It was a beautiful day to be driving the Model A, I have 4 pictures of cars that were out and about, actually to the picnic. If your car isn t here, try for next year. The Cornhusker (Lincoln) & Meadowlarks (Omaha) Model A Clubs of Nebraska held a second annual joint picnic at Mahoney State Park on National Model A Day. A combined total of 27 members enjoyed a pot luck dinner with enjoyable conversation under beautiful skies. Pictured above in front of the Mahoney Lodge are the 8 Model A/AA's driven to the picnic. September Activities cont. Volume 46, Issue 10 Loess Hills Iowa Tour September 21st What a day for driving the A. A nice beautiful day with blue skies and sunshine. Unfortunately one car didn t make it to the starting point. Another car got that far and was towed back to where it came from. One wouldn t necessarily expect great views, but they do exist in western Iowa. Lunch was eaten heartily, and we were the talk of the other diners in Pisgah. The route taken is probably more enjoyable by the A at 35 to 40 mph than driving a modern car at 60. Gerda's Eat Out The eat out at Gerda's on September 18 was great. We had 13 people there. Great German food was had by all. We had a great time visiting with everyone. Upcoming Activities Freddy s Steakburger October 16th Our next eat out is October 16 th at Freddy's Steakburger at 3465 N. 168th St (168 th and Maple). Make sure you sign up at the next meeting. I need to let them know the final number Tuesday October 14. Freddy s menu can be found at http://www.freddysusa.com/menu/ combomeals/. Be sure and call me if you aren't at the meeting. It was a dark and stormy night. No, No, No.... October 19 will be a bright and sunny autumn afternoon that s better! XX Model A s will start on a tour, but nobody will know where they are going. Well, almost no one. Actually, an agenda has been planned but the participants won t know the details until they develop. Of course, it is Halloween season. Here are a few necessary clues: The mystery will start at Millard Social Hall (10508 South 144th Street that s HWY 50, not in Millard) at 12 Noon. We will be eating along the way, but not much until later, so best to have a bit of lunch before we start. Be sure to gas up also because we will be driving about 80 miles. We will have a nice supper and make it back to our starting point by 6PM so we can be home by dark (according to http://www.timeanddate.com, sunset will be at 6:39PM). So, plan to keep that Model A ready for the road. Just in case, though, be sure to sign up if you are going to join us, because you won t want the mystery to be where is everybody, if the tour gets cancelled because of the weather and we don t know to call you. Sign up at the October meeting or call Don & Janet Graves at 402-453-7166. 4

From the Editor, Thank you all for all who have assisted me in putting the newsletter together these past 4 years. I didn t know quite how I was going to do it, but I just plunged in. Part of the fun was thinking up captions for the pictures. Honestly, the best captions didn t get printed. I put several pictures on the previous page which pretty much shows what the Meadowlark club means to me. I thought that it would be a good way to wrap up my stint as you editor.
