Who we are Why and how we engage in this sector The UN Migration Agency Since 1951, the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration 166 Member States, approximately 9000 staff members Budget: approx. 1.6 billion USD (2016), mainly program/project funded Promotion of humane, orderly and safe migration, for the benefit of all Assisting in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration management Advancing understanding of migration issues Encouraging social and economic development through migration Upholding the human dignity and well-being of migrants. IOM/ICAO MOU - IOM s Support ICAO TRIP Strategy implementation IOM-ICAO MoU: Nov 2016 MOU major area: Joint assistance project development and implementation IOM already doing lots of work related to TRIP Strategy 5 elements TRIP Strategy implementation a huge challenge Joint efforts are needed to make ICAO TRIP implemented globally IOM TRIP Working Paper - explores future directions IOM s Strategic directions for supporting successful TRIP implementation: Linking ICAO s expertise and guidance materials with IOM s capacity to deliver results in the field Reinvigorating current IOM IBM project portfolio with new areas that ICAO TRIP offers Using the political momentum of TRIP Strategy to mobilize donor funding 11

Focus areas for IOM involvement MRTD procurement: passport, visa, ID card tenders, potentially CTDs Evidence of Identity (EoI): advocacy and guidance also setting processes and workflows based on EoI principles border management information systems, either MIDAS or others PKD promotion and increasing the number of members a broad range of activities Training border officials: travel doc examination and beyond. PEPM 2 and ICAO training package Assessments: focus on recommendations for future project development And API - possibly other Interoperable Applications intel tools as watch lists, PNR and developing capabilities of border agencies to exploit such data 12
