Countdown to the 24 th Congress of the International Academy of Legal Medicine Japan, 5th - 8th June 2018 Only 8 months separate us from the next IALM Congress, the main Scientific event of our Academy, to be held for the first time in Japan, in the city of Fukuoka, in June 2018. This prestigious academic event, supported by the Japanese Society of Legal Medicine, is organized by Prof. Noriaki Ikeda and Prof. Shin-ichi Kubo. The title of the Congress is From Asia to the World, deriving its guiding ethos from the phenomenon of cultural exchange between Oriental and Western countries and future prospects for better research, innovation and training. The venue of the Congress, the Fukuoka International Congress Center, is one of the most prominent in Japan, and has already been used as the location for a number important congresses in the field of Bio- Medicolegal sciences, including the International Symposium on Advances in Legal Medicine (ISALM-2014). We hope that you will be able join us to participate in this distinguished event, which will be a key occasion for all those involved in the field of Legal Medicine!!2
All of the relevant information pertaining to the scientific programme, registration to the Congress, submission of Abstracts, hospitality and the related social programme, will be published in the next issues of the IALM bulletin or will be found on the Congressional Website at the following address www.ialm2018.org Important Dates Call for Papers From October 2017 to January 15th 2018 Registration Early September 1st 2017 - February 15th 2018 Late February 16th 2018 - May 31st 2018!3
P5 Medicine and Justice: the future is now The numerous events of international importance which have taken place in recent years have confirmed the trend of the rapid evolution of science, in its various connotations and in all its many forms, typical of the postmodern society of risk, and the influence exerted by it upon the bio-medicolegal disciplines. With the hope of fostering a collegial exchange of ideas and actions in this particular historical period, crucial for the identity and compactness of the bio-medicolegal sciences, the IALM President, in an editorial entitled P5 Medicine and Justice: the future is now, recently published in the International Journal of Legal Medicine (Ferrara, S.D. Int J Legal Med, 2017, 131: 897), proposed some considerations for the attention of the readership. These considerations, organized in a logical order in 9 different points, present the evolution of the biomedicolegal sciences, from the origin of historical unitarian knowledge to the current black holes of general knowledge that will govern the direction of future research and will benefit from the biomedical sciences, in particular from the platforms of the future, constituted by imaging, -omics and bio-analytical sciences. Finally, the steps necessary to attain truth, and thus reality, are outlined, which inevitably entail an effort of collaboration, in the realization of a IALM Master Plan concerning Evidence and Accuracy, so as to be able to definitively declare to the justice system the real capacity of the bio-medicolegal sciences to furnish truth and proof.!4
