Honorary President: Prof. Giovanni Conso Director & founder: Dr. AmedeoPostiglione Italy's role for and after Rio+20 Rome Campidoglio Pietro da Cortona Hall, Capitoline Museums Wednesday, 9 May 2012 10:00 a.m 5:00 p.m Seminar organized by the ICEF Foundation Supported by: Municipality of Rome, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea Aims ICEF (International Court of the Environment Foundation) believes that for an effective environmental governance implementation, the creation of an economic governance is nedeed. Sustainable development, topic of the UN Conference held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, already requested a real and deep integration between economic, social and environmental needs. Despite of some progresses, environmental sustainability is not a priority yet. Since 1989, the project of ICEF for a global environmental governance implies: a) an International Agency for the Environment; b) an International Court of the Environment. During the last 20 years the project, besides being supported by the global scientific world and by civil society, acquired also political relevance, as it is proved in a recent Resolution of the European Parliament. But Governments did not give adequate answers yet. In view of the next Conference of Rio+20, ICEF Foundation aims to relaunch its proposals for a global environmental governance, deepening the consideration on the economyenvironment bond, and reasserting the need and urgency to assure effectiveness to the international environmental law and a real access to justice even at an international level. Thus, ICEF wishes that a Working Group made up of Governments will be created for the drawing up of the Statute of an International Court of the Environment. As for the International Criminal Court, Rome could be the right place to host the activities.
