PREFACE The present publication is the most complete edition issued by the National Statistics Office of Georgia. The Statistical Yearbook contains a large amount of the statistics, produced in Georgia, in a concentrated form. The information presented here reflects the current processes characterizing economic and social life in Georgia. The Yearbook has been prepared on the basis of the data obtained through the National Statistics Office s current statistical surveys and censuses. Apart from this, additional statistics was provided by various administrative bodies of the country, such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, the National Bank of Georgia, etc. The Yearbook characterizes the country population and its living standard, health care, education, and culture. It also gives information about national accounts, finance, prices, and investment activities. Finally, it describes the condition of the basic areas of the country economy industry, agriculture, construction, transport, etc. The data presented in the Yearbook were calculated by using the methodology, classifications, nomenclatures and concepts recommended by the United Nations and its specialized institutions, Statistical Office of the European Communities Eurostat, the OECD, etc. Due to this, it is possible to compare Georgian and international indicators.
