Chief Legislator passed 22nd Amendment civil rights legislation National Security Act (1947) Truman Doctrine Foreign Assistance Act 1948 (Marshall Plan) Overturned veto of the Taft- Hartley Bill (Labor- Management Relation Act) and The Immigration and Nationality Act Most of the Fair Deal did not passed through Congress

Chief Diplomat Established NATO Marshall Plan: an effort to stop the spread of communism Helped create Israel become a nation Failed to stop the aggression of Stalin diplomatically Pushed Communist Korea behind 38th parallel and provoked China Truman Doctrine

Chief of Party Stuck to Democratic economic ideals Democrats lost midterm election due to poor economy Splintered the party along the lines of racial equality with Civil Rights activism Poor leadership with party in Congress Was in constant war (a lot of military spending)
