Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) The Boy Scouts of America hold a special event each year. It is the Jamboree on the Air, also know as JOTA. In 2010, JOTA had over 700,000 Scout participants take part. This effort was assisted by almost 6,000 amateur radio stations. JOTA exposes Scouts to amateur radio. They have the opportunity to share their scouting experiences over amateur radio. The first JOTA event was held in 1958. Many Scout leaders and Scouts hold amateur radio licenses themselves. JOTA will be held October 20, 2012 from 0000 hours local time on Saturday until 2359 hours local time on Sunday. Stations should call CQ Jamboree to establish contacts with other JOTA stations. This is an event that is designed to be fun and informative to the Scouts and their leaders. It isn t a contest. Groups that take part are asked to send a report of their activities to the National JOTA Organizer.
