Residence Permit without visa Exchange February 2012 If you are a national from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Monaco or Vatican City, you can enter the Netherlands without a visa. However, if you want to stay longer than three months and study in the Netherlands you need to apply for a temporary residence permit (VVR) for studying before your arrival in the Netherlands. Inholland will assist you with the application procedure. Exchange students from Canada, Australia and New Zealand can also obtain residency through applying for the Working Holiday Scheme or Working Holiday Programme (for 1 year maximum). The main difference is the Immigration fee ( 43 instead of 600). You do not need to follow the requirements as set below. Please contact the International Office for more information about the Working Holiday Scheme or Working Holiday Programme. Inholland only acts as an intermediary with the IND (Dutch Immigration Service). We have no influence whatsoever, neither on the outcome of the procedure, nor on the duration of the procedure. The residence permit will only be valid until the end of the academic semester or year (September 1) and can t be extended. Please, read this information carefully as it contains important information on the conditions you need to meet. Conditions of residence permit (VVR) To start the VVR application through Inholland, you must have been accepted to follow the exchange program at Inholland. Please note: incomplete applications will be seriously delayed or denied by the IND. Necessary documents for the VVR For the VVR application the following documents are required: Send in the filled out VVR application form. You can find the form at the same website location as this information sheet; A copy of your passport, all pages including stamps and stickers. The passport should be valid for at least 3 months more than your stay in the Netherlands; The original filled out and signed application form for your residence permit. Print this form, sign it and send it back by regular mail ( see Appendix, page 5); An original bank statement in your or the sponsor s name (proof of financial means for the Dutch Immigration Office)(see Appendix, page 7) ; Financial statement of your sponsor together with a copy of the sponsors passport.(see Appendix, page 8); An original, signed photo card with attached portrait photo for your residence permit (see Appendix, page 9). The photo must comply with certain detailed and strict legal requirements (see Appendix, page 10); Note: All the above mentioned documents need to be stated in English, German, French or Dutch and may not be older than 3 months. If you are submitting documents in another language, they must be original documents and must be accompanied by a certified translation. Deadlines The application deadlines for the February semester of the academic year 2011-2012 are as follows: Programme application: 1 November 2011 VVR application documents: 15 November 2011 Payment: 1 December 2011 Proof of sufficient means One of the conditions to obtain a VVR is proof of sufficient financial means to cover your living expenses in the Netherlands during your stay. The net monthly amount that is currently applicable to international students is 800 per month. In total you need to show an amount of 4.800 for 1 semester (febr - jul= 6 months) to the IND. The amount should be shown by sending an original bank statement (not older than 3 months) to Inholland.You can choose from 2 possibilities, see explanation below. Poss 1 An, original bank statement (including name, address and telephone number of the bank on it!) that says that you have the amount free available for your studies in your bank account (an example of this statement can be found on page 5) Poss 2 1. An original bank statement (including name, address and telephone number of the bank on it!) that ensures that your sponsor (for instance your parents) has the amount free available for your studies in his/her bank account 2. a statement from your sponsor that he/she will transfer 800 per month into your bank account during the months of your staying in the Netherlands (an example of this statement can be found on page 6) 3. an original statement from the bank that they have a payment order to transfer this amount 4. a copy the passport of sponsor. Detail page only. Please make sure that the bank statement contains your name, account number and the balance available. This balance needs to have no restrictions (free withdrawal). Fees and payment Administration fee for residence permit The IND administration fee currently stands at 600. Inholland will assist you (free of charge), however you need to transfer the administration fee of 600 in our bank account. Inholland will assist you with the application and will transfer the administration fee on your behalf to IND. Health Insurance Having a sufficient health and liability insurance for the time of your stay in The Netherlands is a prerequisite for the resident permit application. Inholland will take out a compulsory health and liability insurance on your behalf (IPS insurance). 3

The insurance fees are approximately 210 for one semester. Inholland will pay these fees on your behalf if you have made a timely and sufficient deposit in the Inholland bank account. Note: Please also remember to take out sufficient travel insurance, if desired. Without the state reference it will be extremely difficult to trace your transfer, which will delay your application. Birth Certificate You need to bring an original, legalised birth certificate with you to the Netherlands. Some City Councils may require your birth certificate for registration in their personal record database (GBA). Registration at City Council is necessary for receiving your residence permit. To do so you also need a legal address in the Netherlands. Extra services Apart from the VVR application on your behalf, we can provide you with the extra services of the Welcome to Inholland Programme, including the following services: Pick-up service from the train station or airport upon arrival in the Netherlands Assistance with registration at the City Council; Assistance with opening a bank account in The Netherlands; A social programme arranged by the International Office and Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Tuberculose / Tuberculosis Om een verblijfsvergunning te verkrijgen, moet u (of de persoon die u vertegenwoordigt) bereid zijn een onderzoek naar en indien nodig behandeling van tuberculose (TBC) te ondergaan. Wanneer u samen met uw aanvraag de ingevulde intentieverklaring TBConderzoek bij de IND indient (en u ook aan alle overige voorwaarden voldoet), verleent de IND u zo snel als mogelijk een verblijfsvergunning. U krijgt deze vergunning onder de nadrukkelijke voorwaarde dat u ook daadwerkelijk binnen drie maanden een TBC onderzoek ondergaat. Mocht na afgifte van een verblijfsvergunning blijken dat u ondanks ondertekening van de intentieverklaring niet binnen de termijn van drie maanden een TBC onderzoek heeft ondergaan, zal dit tot intrekking van de verleende vergunning kunnen leiden. Lever de ingevulde en ondertekende Intentieverklaring mee met uw aanvraag voordat u een afspraak maakt bij de Gemeenschappelijke Gezondheidsdienst (GGD). Door het ondertekenen van deze verklaring verklaart u bereid te zijn een onderzoek naar en zo nodig behandeling van Tuberculose te ondergaan. Bij deze afspraak moet u het verwijzingsformulier zo volledig mogelijk ingevuld (deel A) meenemen. \ In order to obtain a residence permit, you (or the person whom you represent) must be prepared to undergo a tuberculosis examination and, if necessary, treatment for tuberculosis. If you submit this Declaration of Intent for a Tuberculosis Examination to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) together with your application (and if you also meet all other conditions), the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) will grant you a residence permit as soon as possible. You will be granted this permit on the specific condition that you actually undergo a tuberculosis examination within three months. Failure on your part despite your signing of this Declaration of Intent to undergo a tuberculosis examination within the three month period following the issuance of a residence permit may result in cancellation of the granted permit. Submit the completed and signed Declaration of Intent together with your application before you make an appointment with the Municipal Health Service (GGD). By signing this declaration, you declare that you are prepared to undergo a tuberculosis examination and, if necessary, treatment for tuberculosis. You must bring the Tuberculosis Examination Referral Form, completed as much as possible (Section A), to the appointment with the Municipal Health Service (GGD). The examination requirement also does not apply to holders of a valid residence permit for an EEA Member State, an EU Member State or Switzerland, or if you hold an EG residence permit for long-term residents issued by another EU Member State or if you are a family member of a long-term resident and you have already been admitted to another EU Member State as a family member of such long-term resident. I hereby declare that I am prepared to cooperate in the tuberculosis examination and, if necessary, to undergo treatment for tuberculosis. I do not need a tuberculosis examination as I am a national of one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Surinam, Switzerland, United States of America or a country of the EU/EEA. I do not need a tuberculosis examination as I am in possession of a valid residence permit as a (family member of a) long term resident for an EU/EEA country or Switzerland. I am aware of my obligation to undergo a tuberculosis examination within three months after the date on application for a residence permit was filed. which the Failure on my part to comply with this requirement will have consequences for my right to stay in the Netherlands. 6

On the box in the right hand corner on the bottom side you should stick a recent photo of yourself. The photo should be in full colour and be no older than 6 months Please note!
