33 year old Thomas Jefferson went to Philadelphia to be a delegate in the 2 nd Continental Congress. He had a reputation of being a fantastic writer. May 1776
In Virginia!!! On May My 15 the Convention of Virginia instructed their delegates to propose that Congress declare independence from Great Britain and prepare a committee to prepare a declaration of rights iht and a plan for a new government.

The process Thomas spent 2 and 1/2 weeks writing the Declaration of Independence in a boarding house that was owned by Jacob Graff Jr. He recorded temperature and weather conditions daily while he worked on the declaration.

The Editing From July 2nd to July 4th Congress Edited the Declaration. Delegates from South Carolina, Georgia and some from New England would not sign until he removed his language that was against slavery. Other words were also added.

What else did Jefferson do? He bought almost half of the United States from France in the Louisiana Purchase. He was a scientist. He grew flowers with his grandkids. He spread seeds all over the country.
He was an inventor! He invented a new plow called Moldboard of Least Resistance Plow. He invented a Macaroni Machine.

Thomas Jefferson, 1820 Jefferson built the University of Virginia. It was the first college that was not run by a religious affiliation. He believed in public education.
