CUO-HAL launched Distinguished Lecture Globalization and Contemporary International Relations Press Release Date: 21.03.2016 Central University of Orissa, Koraput organised CUO-HAL Distinguished Lecture on Globalization and Contemporary International Relations at Bhanja Mandap, HAL Township, Sunabeda with the collaboration of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited today. Prof. Rajen G. Harshe, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Allahabad and currently Professor at South Asian University, New Delhi said that First time the industry- academic interface programme has been begin in the country by the two leading central institutions of this region while delivering the inaugural lecture under the series as chief guest.

Prof. Harshe elaborated all the angel of the of the Contemporary International Relations of India including pre cold war and post cold war period. Globalisation involves free flow of ideas, goods, capitals, trades, finance, knowledge, information, decision and free flow of social movement in broader prospective. Globalisation is stimulated by capitalism Prof. Harshe said while defining the globalisation. Talking about the globalisation of education he pointed out that It is the time for India to change by building great Universities in our country where students from other parts of the world can come for higher education. In this regard the Central University of Orissa needs to introduce contemporary discipline in view of the globalised world. Globalisation impact all our life as anything happened in the outside of the country it reflects in our life. For this, in this globalised world we need to keep an eye on all the necessary happing of the globalised world Prof. Mohanty said while delivering the welcome address. In mean while he also said that in upcoming time different eminent intellectuals of the country will visit the university and deliver the lecture, as not only students but also every body of this region will be benefited from it

Shri. Debasish Deb, General Manager Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Sunabeda presided over the programme. In this globalised world only industrial knowledge is no sufficient, to lead the industry. We also need to know about the contemporary international relations in view of the current international scenario Shri Deb said in his presidential address. To honour Prof. Harshe the Central University of Orissa and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited gifted the traditional artefact of the Odisha. On behalf of Central University of Orissa Sh. Sujit Kumar Mohanty, faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication extended the vote of thanks while behalf of HAL, Sunabeda Sh.Natraj, Asst. Manager HR gave vote of thanks. Rajendra Govind Harshe (Rajen Harshe) - CV in brief Current Position: Visiting Professor, Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences, South Asian University, New Delhi, 110021 Telephones+91-11- 24195290 (0), 26535457, +919717200275 (M) Professor Rajen Harshe was the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Allahabad, after it regained central status (from October, 13, 2005-October 13, 2010). Currently he is a full time Visiting Professor in the Department of International Relations, South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi. He is also the President of prestigious G.B. Pant Social Science Institute of Allahabad since May 2014. Before shifting over to the SAU, he was a Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of Hyderabad. Dr. Harshe is an eminent social scientist and a leading scholar of international relations studies in India. A Ph. D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (J.N.U.) he did part of his doctoral work at the Fondation Nationale Des Sciences Politiques of Paris on a French Government Fellowship (1973-75). He was a Fulbright scholar at Columbia University, New York (1985-86) where he did his post-doctoral research. He was also Linneus-Palme fellow at the Uppasala University, Sweden in Oct-Nov.2003. As a part of the Indian delegation of Vice Chancellors he visited the U.S.A. on International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) in September 2007. Prof. Harshe has travelled quite widely on important assignments as member /leader of national delegations or a visiting scholar in several countries including the U.S.A., Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, Iran, Sudan, Algeria, Western Sahara, Thailand, The Republic of South Africa, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Nepal etc. He was also a member of Indo-Russian Joint Commission for cooperation in social sciences (1997-2003). Besides, he was the President of the African Studies Association of India (2005-11), sectional President of the Indian History Congress for the year 2009-10, President of the Indian Congress of Asian and Pacific Studies (2009-10) and Editor in Chief of Africa Review (2006-12). Furthermore, he has received several honours, including Honorary Colonel (2007), Fergusson Gaurav Award (2007) and Amity Academic Excellence Award (2008) etc. Prof. Harshe is an active scholar with impressive and diverse range of publications covering development related issues in areas such as South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Western Europe as also theories of international relations, especially those related to imperialism and globalisation. Prof. Harshe s initial forays were in African and International Relations Studies. His writings on neo-colonialism and underdevelopment were path finding. He was the first Indian scholar to have published a pioneering study on French Africa entitled Pervasive Entente France and Ivory Coast in African Affairs (New Delhi, Arnold -Heinemann 1984 and New Jersey, Humanities Press 1984). His book entitled Twentieth Century Imperialism Shifting Contours and Changing Conceptions (New Delhi, London and Thousand Oaks, Sage publications 1997) has already earned him international recognition. It is being used as important reading in several courses in social sciences in India and abroad. His edited work entitled Interpreting Globalisation: Perspectives in International Relations (Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, and Rawat publishers, New Delhi and Jaipur, 2004) represents a commendable collective endeavour with the contributions from well-known Indian and Russian social scientists. Apart from publishing a diverse range of articles on India s foreign policy Prof Harshe has co-edited a major anthology with K.M. Seethi entitled Engaging with the World: Critical Reflections on India s Foreign Policy (New Delhi, Orient Longman, 2005. Orient Blckswan, 2009). His latest book is entitled Reflections on Nation Building: A Gypsy in the World of Ideas (New Delhi, Pentagon, 2011) Dr. Harshe has to his credit over eighty articles in prestigious

anthologies and academic journals. Professor Harshe has given several special lectures/key note addresses and chaired sessions in prestigious national and international seminars. One of the significant contributions of Prof. Harshe to policy oriented issues appeared when he completed a monograph on 'Stakeholder Participation in the Andhra Pradesh Reform Process' (2001) for the World Bank. Thanks to its relevance for public policy, the World Bank as well as the Government of India is using this study as a major assessment report as well as a critique of the reform process. In addition to long administrative experience (1989-2014), Professor Harshe has had the privilege of functioning as an expert, search committee member for Vice Chancellorships/Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission of India (UGC), member Board of Governors of the IIT Kanpur (2007-12), member of Academic and Executive Councils of different universities, consultant and resource person in several prestigious academic institutions. In fact, he has also been associated in different capacities, with the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the World Bank, Planning Commission of India, the National Knowledge Commission, the Ford Foundation, Fulbright Foundation, the European Commission, the UGC, the Indian Council of Social Science Research and the National Assessment And Accreditation Council.
