The Hong Kong Model United Nations Club About HKMUNC Established in 2005, the Hong Kong Model United Nations Club (HKMUNC) aims at promoting MUN culture in the region, promoting world peace through understanding and cooperation between cultures and arousing youth attention on global issues. With the above objectives, the HKMUNC has successfully drawn great attention in the society. Past Events of HKMUNC include the HKGMUN Conference 2006, the HKMUNC Conference 2008, the Hong Kong Secondary School Model United Nations Conference 2014, the Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference 2015, visits and workshops on global issues. We also emerge from overseas conferences, including Harvard National MUN, China National MUN and Beijing MUN with flying colors. With the support from our honorable advisors, we are ambitious in building our brand in the coming few years. Our Aims are: To enhance students' organization, communication, presentation and negotiation skills so that they will become future leaders in society. To inspire students with the experience of exchanging ideas and cultures with universities students from other countries To develop students lifelong interest and a sense of responsibility towards global affairs To make an effort in promoting world peace through understanding and cooperation between cultures To promote Model United Nations in the region Composition of HKMUNC Organizing committees of the Club come from different universities and colleges. Many of them have valuable experiences in participating MUN events locally and throughout the region in other countries such as the United States and People s Republic of China. Past Events THE HONG KONG MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2006 Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference 2006 was one of the most exquisite events of the Club. With the support of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People s Republic of China in HKSAR, our honorable advisors, guests and judges, the Conference attracted over 80 international university students who are selected from hundreds of applicants. The Conference not only started the glamorous history of the Club, but also established the path of model United Nations in Hong Kong. Participation in international Model United Nations The Club has been devoted to train knowledgeable delegates by sponsoring them to participate in different model United Nations conferences around the world. From 2005, we have sent various teams to participate in China s model United Nations conferences, such as Xi an Model United Nations Conference and Asia International Model United Nations Conference. Delegates representing HKMUNC have received honorable awards, such as Best Position Paper and Best Delegation. Hong Kong Model United Nations Club 3
In 2007, HKMUNC sent 5 well trained delegates to the world prestigious Harvard National Model United Nations Conference 2007. In 2008, we sent another 8 delegates to the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference 2008. In 2008, HKMUNC delegates have participated in Singapore Model United Nations; half of the delegates have been awarded the Best Delegation Award, which is the harvest of the Club s continuous efforts in training. Through participation in various MUN around the world, not only HKMUNC can learn valuable experiences from different organizers, but HKMUNC can also successfully promote its brand around the world. HKMUNC LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME 2007 - YOUNG DIPLOMATS OF TOMORROW Young Diplomats of Tomorrow is a chain of programmes and activities designed and organized by HKMUNC, aiming to enhance students' organization, communication, presentation and negotiation skills as well as to promote world peace. The series includes local training programmes, talks by professors, visits and interview to the Consulates and Legislative Council and non-governmental organizations at the beginning stage, best performers would be given a change to proceed to the next stages. Under the motto Embrace the world, all the activities are aimed at enhancing members interests and understanding in global issue. All in all, the series is the cradle of future leaders. THE HONG KONG MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2008 The Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference was successfully held from 25 th to 27 th January 2008 with its grand opening in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The in-depth topics, the high quality of chairpersons, and the careful attention to the conference arrangements, have together attracted more than 600 international applicants from, to name a few, China, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Nigeria, Germany, France, and Mexico. The heated debate over pressing issues among elites around the globe has been the spotlight of the conference. THE HONG KONG MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2009 Nurturing the HKMUN Conference as the auspice of Model United Nations Conference in Asia The Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference 2009 was held in the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 15 th 18 th January 2009 with a larger scale. Both the number of days, delegates and committee had increased. We believe it provided more opportunities to those had expressed keen interest in MUN, and a larger variety of students demonstrated a larger gain for the conference. THE HONG KONG MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2010 The Hong Kong Model United Nations Conference 2010 was successfully held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University of from 7 th to 10 th January 2010. It had served as the training ground for future leaders as well as providing an excellent platform for intellectual and cultural exchanges. Supported by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the HKSAR and the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau as well as the Education Bureau of the Government of HKSAR, this conference was widely known by the university students in local districts and over the world that attracted a large number of global delegates. THE HONG KONG SECONDARY SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2010 With the joint effort of the Commission on Youth, Hong Kong Secondary Schools Model United Nations Conference 2010 was successfully held in Youth Square, Chai Wan from 2 nd April to 4 th April 2010. It was a pioneering effort to extend our conference to 218 secondary/ high school students from all over the world to participate in this meaningful event. THE HONG KONG MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2011 The 7 th international model United Nations conference was successfully held from 17 th to 20 th February 2011 in Youth Square, Chai Wan. We had over 230 committed young people from different corners of the world converging to work out contributive resolutions to imperative global problems as well as building borderless friendships. In the 4-days conference, we went through 20 hours of intensive discussion on controversial topics. THE HONG KONG SECONDARY SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2012 The second Secondary School Model United Nations Conference ended with wide applause in July 2012. A 4-day conference in Y-Square, Chai Wan from 29 th June to 2 nd July attracted more than 250 local and overseas elites. With accrued experience, our club has gained recognition among the local and international community. THE HONG KONG SECONDARY SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2017 The Hong Kong Secondary School Model United Nations Conference 2017 was held successfully in The Wave, Kwun Tong from 30 th September to 2 nd October 2017, after a two-year break of the Club. More than 130 participants took part in the conference and spoke highly of the overall organisation.
