QGIS.org - Donations and Sponsorship Analysis 2016 QGIS.ORG received 1128 donations and 47 sponsorships. This equals to >3 donations every day and almost one new or renewed sponsorship every week. The total income of sponsorships in 2016 was EUR67921.54 (73 %) vs. EUR25108.89 (27 %) of donations. Note that the total doesn t equal exactly the figures in the public financial report, as in this analysis we use the gross donation/sponsoring amounts (before any PayPal fee subtractions). Also some PayPal payments made in 2016 haven t been withdrawn before January 2017 and thus will appear in the public financial report 2017. The minimum donation was 0.1, the maximum donation was 632.34. The mean donation is 22.25, the median donation is 10. The minimum sponsorship was 500, the maximum sponsorship was 9000. The mean sponsorship was at 1454, the median at 500.

. Distribution of Donation Amounts in (total nr of donations: 1128) Distribution of Sponsoring Amounts in (total nr of sponsorships: 47)

Temporal distribution of sponsorships and donations 2016 Naturally, during summer break, there are fewer sponsorships, as many company employees are on summer holidays during July and August. The increase of sponsorships and donations in December may be due to call for financial support in the QGIS.ORG blog post ( http://blog.qgis.org/2016/11/19/lets-make-a-big-funding-push-for-qgis-3-0/ ) Another likely explanation is that some already existing sponsorships were due for renewal during November and December, anyway. The hypothesis, that donations/sponsorships increase around a new QGIS release, can t be embraced, based on this data. For reference: QGIS 2.14 was released in February, 2.16 in July and 2.18 in October. Spatial distribution of contributions 2016 world wide.

Donations and Sponsorships where received from 65 countries from all over the world. The majority of the contributions were made from European countries though.
