VILLAGE OF LANSING JOURNAL AND REGULAR PROCEEDINGS OF THE REGULAR BOARD MEETING OF THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES SEPTEMBER 19, 2017 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Eidam called the Regular Board Meeting to order at 8:02 p.m. Roll call revealed the following Trustees present: Zeldenrust, Grady-Perovich, Hardy, Skrbina, DeLaurentis APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mayor Eidam asked if there were any questions or discussion on the minutes from the Public Hearing regarding the IKE Community Stabilization Grant held on August 15, 2017. There were none. Mayor Eidam asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the Public Hearing. B. Announce State Rep. Marcus Evans Resource & Health Expo Mayor Eidam announced that State Rep. Marcus Evans was hosting a Resource and Health Expo on September 20, 2017, from 10 am to 3 pm at South Suburban College. The Mayor stated that flyers were available after the meeting for anyone interested. C. Announce Area Community Recycling Day Mayor Eidam announced that a Community Recycling Day was being held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 9 am to Noon at the President Barack Obama Learning Center in Phoenix. Motion seconded by Trustee DeLaurentis Resolution #1014 Approved A. 2017 Concrete Restoration Program Trustee Skrbina motioned to award the 2017 Concrete Restoration Program bid to J&J Newell Concrete Contractors, in the amount of $137,480.00 Motion seconded by Trustee DeLaurentis Administrator Podgorski asked Village Engineer Jeff Pintar to explain the details of the program, which includes restoration of approximately 135 locations. Motion Passed Trustee Skrbina read the August monthly report for Public Works, as provided by staff. BUILDING & ECON. DEV. Trustee Hardy announced that he has been regularly meeting with acting Building Commissioner Bob Alderden. Mr. Hardy updated everyone on the status of several developments, including the Popeye s Chicken, parking lot for Napleton, the Polish Deli going in on Torrence Avenue, History Plaza, Coolidge School and Fox Pointe. Mr. Alderden reminded residents that leaves should be placed in the provided toters for pick-up, not at the curb. YOUTH CENTER & INS Trustee Grady-Perovich reported that the renewal process is still ongoing for insurance. PUBLIC COMMENT Mike Sanow, 2847 194 th Street, wished Trustee Manno a speedy recovery, thanked Mayor Eidam for having the 911 ceremony, thanked Trustee Zeldenrust, Trustee Hardy, FOP Lodge and Chief Murrin for work being done on the Santa House. Sanow also renewed his call for additional Police Officers and asked Trustee Zeldenrust if he had the overtime costs for the Police Department. Trustee Zeldenrust stated that he did not. Lou Ann, 19116 Grant Street, asked what is going on with the former LaBalanza building because it has become a severe eyesore. Administrator Podgorski responded by stating that the Village is working with a prospective buyer and there should be visible movement soon. Lou Ann also commented on the need for street repair/resurfacing in her area. OLD BUSINESS Mayor Eidam thanked Trustee Hardy, Chief Murrin and Ken Reynolds for attending the El Corazon performance at Memorial Jr. High. Mayor Eidam thanked Post 697 for hosting the re-dedication event of the Blue Star Marker. Mayor Eidam stated that she received a nice letter from Pam Dennis, thanking the Village for all the help with her recent Fetching Market in the Ford Hangar. Mayor Eidam announced that she, Mr. Podgorski and Mr. Reynolds met with the community group again on September 7 th, to do a follow-up meeting from the community forum held on August 16, 2017 at TF South. Mr. Reynolds presented an agenda from the follow-up meeting and reviewed the various topics discussed. Trustee Grady-Perovich thanked Library Director Debbie Albrecht for hosting the recent tax appeal seminar, which approximately 400 people attended. Grady-Perovich also thanked L.A.C.E. for recently hosting the Family Fun & Fireworks night at the Lansing Country Club. Trustee Hardy also thanked Debbie Albrecht for hosting the tax appeal event because his neighbor found it extremely helpful and is receiving a large refund. Trustee DeLaurentis asked Village Engineer Jeff Pintar about the viability of the new sod that has been placed in the parkways along History Plaza throughout the winter. Mr. Pintar explained that salt tolerant sod was chosen from a cost perspective, and other options such as pavers may be necessary in the future if the sod does not survive. NEW BUSINESS Trustee Hardy gave an update on the progress of the Santa House being built. The concrete was poured, the walls are up and the roof is on with shingles being installed soon. Hardy also thanked John Cole, who is overseeing the project, all of the volunteers, and Jeff Pintar for their help. Mayor Eidam announced that to date, all work that has been done was completed by donations and no Village funds have been necessary. Trustee Zeldenrust announced that this Saturday the 23 rd, volunteers will be meeting at First Church at 9 a.m. to help give another home face-lift to a resident in need. Trustee Skrbina announced that Homewood Disposal offers an electronic pick-up service for a fee, and perhaps this is something the Village can look into. Mr. Podgorski explained that this is something the administration is looking in to and it will be addressed in the near future.
