Tyn Church, Old Town, Prague Czech/Slovak Legal Institute 25th Annual Study Trip to the Czech Republic October 11 23, 2017
Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, Brno Letter from the Director Dear Friends: Who would believe that this fall marks our 25th Study Trip to the Czech Republic. Those of us who made that first trip (and there are many of you out there) will remember our humble beginnings at the old mill outside of Prague. During the almost 25 years that we have been traveling to the Czech Republic, we have observed many changes. Though the physical environment has changed, one can still travel back through the centuries to the time of Charles IV, the Reformation and the Thirty Years War, and the Hapsburg Empire. We are going to try to capture both the old and the new on this year s trip. On October 12, the group will rendezvous in Prague and spend four days exploring the capital city and its environs. During our trip, there will be two opportunities to present CLE programs on U.S. law: one for the Czech Bar in Prague and one for the students and faculty at Masaryk Faculty of Law in Brno. Before heading to Brno, the judicial capital of the Czech Republic, where we will spend four days, we will visit Mladá Boleslav and tour the Skoda automobile factory and museum to learn more about the brand, its philosophy, history, and advanced manufacturing technology. We will end our trip this year on a cosmopolitan note, but not before traveling through the Bohemian Highlands and then on to the wine country of southern Moravia. The trip concludes in Vienna, the Imperial City, where you will have a free day to sightsee or shop. On this excursion, you will experience firsthand the unique partnership that has been forged between The John Marshall Law School and the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University. The past and the future will come together in beautiful harmony. Join us. It will be a trip of a lifetime. Michael P.
