INTERNATIONAL OFFICE Short procedure - MVV Visa for Study Dear prospective student, If you are not a citizen or official resident of a country belonging to the EU/EER i or you are not from a country ii that does not require a provisional residence permit (MVV) to enter the Netherlands and you wish to study for a period longer than 90 days in the Netherlands you must apply for an MVV visa as part of your enrolment. After you arrive with an MVV in your passport it is then necessary for you to further apply for a temporary residence permit (VVR) 1. The procedure: The Hogeschool Utrecht (HU) shall send your MVV application to the Dutch Immigration once you have fulfilled all the requirements. The HU shall receive notification from the Dutch Immigration (IND) after they have qualified your request and shall pass this information on to you promptly by email. You should then arrange an appointment with your Dutch Embassy to collect the MVV visa shortly before your intended travel date. Once you have entered the Netherlands with your MVV you are obliged within a few days after arrival to apply for your temporary residence permit (VVR). You must complete and sign the VVR application form (sent to the HU at the time of the MVV decision). To finalize your application you shall need to provide a copy of your MVV visa and a current passport photo. The IND should approve your temporary residence within two to three months. The following conditions apply: It is not possible to register for a study in the Netherlands whilst holding a tourist visa for the Netherlands and it is also not possible to reside in the Netherlands with a tourist visa during the MVV application procedure. It is not possible to make a personal request for a visa to study in the Netherlands at a Dutch Embassy or consulate in your country. A request for a visa to study must be made through the institution in the Netherlands where the applicant is to study. It is possible to apply for an MVV visa for study whilst legally resident in another country other than the country of your passport. It is however, necessary to provide legal proof of temporary residence for the other country at the time of application. You must provide proof of registration and positive admissions advice in a HU full-time study programme (or preparation study) for the forthcoming study year. The HU holds the right not to proceed with an application should it not conform to the requirements of the HU visa procedure and/or IND. The HU is obliged by the Dutch immigration law to inform the IND of changes in the applicant s situation relating to the visa at all times during the application process and during the temporary stay in the Netherlands whilst the student is holding a visa for study at the HU. 1 Nationals of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, USA or, South Korea may apply for the VVR without an MVV. The procedure: The applicant must complete and send the attached MVV Application Form together with the requested documents to the Hogeschool Utrecht, Visa Unit in the. The HU Visa Unit shall confirm receipt of the application within one week (in busy times it may take slightly longer). The Visa Officer shall administer the application and send a Financial Contract to the applicant with details on how to complete the financial section. An MVV application shall not be sent to the IND until it is complete and all (financial) requirements are met. The HU holds the right to stop the proceedings irrespective to the reason should the application not be complete after the given deadline date. Apply now for your MVV and send the following directly to the Visa Officer: 1. A completed MVV Application Form signed by the applicant including; a. Acknowledgement of required Health Insurance; the applicant must be adequately covered for Health Insurance during the stay in the Netherlands. Information is available on the website of the Nuffic organisation www.nuffic.nl under the heading International Student; preparing your stay. The HU can place a request on behalf of the applicant with a Dutch health insurance organization where further information shall be provided upon request. The invoiced costs shall be deducted as part of the visa procedure. b. Acknowledgment of method of payment providing adequate proof of financial means in accordance with the Dutch Immigration (IND) minimum financial means 2. Specific details shall be provided on the Financial Contract. c. Acknowledgement that fees must be paid: MVV and VVR 438.00, Administration Fee (non scholarship and non Erasmus) 680.00 2. Official positive advice for your admission to a full-time programme at the HU. (see Admissions requirements below) 3. Copy of your current passport (showing identification pages, clearly stating passport number, issue and expiry date). The passport should be valid at least one year from the study begin date. 4. A current passport photo (see IND standards page 3) 5. Copy of your birth certificate 3 Admissions requirements (see www.international.hu.nl Apply Now ): Full-time study: Proof of HU enrolment/registration (copy of Studielink application) Official HU admissions advice for the HU full-time programme for the forthcoming study year. Authorization of payment for tuition fee, signed and received by the HU enrolment office OR Preparation Year: Proof of enrolment/registration in an HU officially recognized preparation programme. Official signed declaration of provisional registration and admission to the HU full-time programme for the following year. 2 The minimum financial means per month is currently 659.69 (preparation year/erasmus student), 794.69 (regular student), altered twice a year (1st January and 1st July) 3 A Birth Certificate is required for registration purposes after arrival in the Netherlands. Students from Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, India and the Dominican Republic are required to have their Birth Certificate verified and legalized. Be aware legalization can take approximately 3 months. Deadline date: The HU Visa Officer must have received a complete visa application and sent a Financial Contract to the student before the specified deadline date: September admission: 1 st of June February admission: 15th of November Should you not comply with the deadline date your application may not be sent to the Dutch Immigration (due to insufficient time before start of your study). Reimbursements: Details shall be specified on the Financial Contract. All reimbursements shall be returned in Euro s. Dutch Immigration passport photo requirements: The photo has to be 35mm by 45mm in size and cannot have been used before The face of the applicant must be shown directly facing the camera and should take up about 2 cm of the picture. The background must be a light, even color Both eyes must be visible, clear glasses can be worn. Wearing dark (sun)glasses on the photo is not permitted, unless the applicant has shown that these are necessary for medical reasons The head must be uncovered, unless the applicant has shown that religious or medical reasons oppose this. Health Insurance I shall be arranging my own Health Insurance for my stay in the Netherlands and am aware of the Dutch Health insurance regulations whilst living temporarily in the Netherlands. www.nuffic.nl I would like to request the HU to arrange my Health Insurance: (+/- 40.00 p/m) Method of financial proof for Full-time study: 1) I am to receive a scholarship that covers part of the immigration minimum financial requirements and am aware that it may be necessary to deposit money onto the HU bank account as further proof of advanced living. 2) I am prepared to deposit my advanced living expenses as financial proof iii (or part of in combination with a scholarship declaration) together with the required visa fees onto the HU bank account directly.
