Other action taken by the Board Venue of the fourteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in 2016 1. The Trade and Development Board approved a draft decision on the venue for UNCTAD XIV, as contained in the non-paper shared with member States, for the consideration of the General Assembly of the United Nations at its seventieth session (see annex II). 2. President s summary Venue of the fourteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in 2016 (Agenda item 2) 3. At the plenary meeting, the President of the Trade and Development Board recalled that at the consultations of the President held on 17 November 2015, member States endorsed the generous offer of the Government of Kenya to host UNCTAD XIV in July 2016. He also clarified the need to submit a draft decision to the General Assembly on the issue of a venue for the Conference. 4. The President thanked the Government of Kenya, and recalled that there was much work to be done ahead of the Conference. The representative of Kenya thanked member States for endorsing his country as the host of UNCTAD XIV. 5. Many delegations expressed appreciation for the offer of the Government of Kenya to host the Conference and looked forward to a successful UNCTAD XIV. Several delegations noted that Kenya would be hosting the Conference in Nairobi not long before 2

and after other important international conferences, such as the forthcoming tenth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization and the next Tokyo International Conference on African Development. One delegation noted that the Conference would be one of the first United Nations meetings to take place after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in September 2015. The conclusions of UNCTAD XIV would be a starting point for translating the ambitions of the international development community into plans of actions and should feed into the work of the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly. 6. The UNCTAD secretariat informed the Board on various aspects of ongoing arrangements for UNCTAD XIV, including the proposed dates for the Conference of 17-22 july 2016.
