Community Sailing Center (CSC) Mr. Richards reported they received good public response at the February 28th Artemis event, with wide distribution of their brochures and many people signing their request-information list.

NEW BUSINESS Ms. Wright reviewed the February 28 event with Mr. Seiwald leading the post-event assessment discussion. Mr. Richards mentioned difficulties with the AV equipment and compatibilities with the Artemis Team presentation. Ms. Craig received positive comments from Tom Schnackenberg, one of the Artemis presenters. She said that the event brought new people to the Alameda Theater. Mr. Seiwald liked the length of the program and suggested that the Committee should prepare some questions in advance if it organizes a similar event in the future. Mr. Fonstein mentioned that Artemis representatives were suppose to have prepared questions to lead the Q&A segment for their speakers. Mr. Forbes asked if a similar event is possible with Luna Rossa. Ms. Taylor responded that the City will explore this opportunity. a. Discussion of Future Agenda Items 1) Artemis tweeting the times for boat launchesthe idea is that many people would be interested to see the 72 catamaran launched in the seaplane lagoon either for training sessions or for the actual America s Cup races. Mr. Seiwald said that he suggested this to Paul Cayard, Artemis CEO, at the February event. Mr. Seiwald said that he will pursue it further. 2) Public display of racing boats ("Glory ride down the estuary" after the America s Cup or display of the 45s at Summer Sailstace)This would be another opportunity for the public to see the technologically advanced sail boats in the water from the Alameda shoreline. Mr. Seiwald said he will explore approaching the Italians through one of his contacts about this idea in addition to a possible community meeting, similar to the Artemis event. 3) A public presentation about building local business opportunities associated with the America s Cup and how to watch the eventmr. Bloch recommended Jack Griffin, with the presentation possibly coinciding with the April 11-14 boat show or the June 22 Summer Sailstice Celebration. Mr. Bloch and Mr. Platt volunteered to follow up.
America s Cup Committee Page 3 of 3 Meeting Minutes March 7, 2013 Mr. Forbes asked that a forthcoming committee meeting have on the agenda discussion about the committee, post America s Cup, noting that it may morph into a "waterfront advocacy committee." 4) Visitors MapMs. Taylor said that the City is creating a visitors map as part of its package of new marketing materials. The maps will highlight the City s shopping districts and may be distributed in conjunction with the America s Cup. Ms. Taylor will keep the Committee advised on their production. 5) Signage on the Bay ferries; post an ad in Bay Crossingsthe Committee discussed that this may be an opportunity for PSBA ads. John Arndt commented that Alameda has the largest concentration of recreational boat docks in the Bay Area. Such ads may help bring boaters inland and the general public to the waterfront. 6) Additional parking by the ferry terminalsmr. Platt said overflow parking could be made more convenient if ferries are operating at full capacity; currently it is roughly a half mile walk to the ferry. Mr. Fonstein will talk with the Public Works Department about the location of additional parking. 7) Mayor s racemr. Platt raised the idea of a challenge race involving the eight East Bay mayors. 7. Bloch is organizing Jack Griffin s presentation on April 11 at the Oakland Yacht Club. Mr. Bloch will also be presenting to the Rotary Club on April 16 and to the Association of Alameda Realtors on June 11. 3.) Discussion of post AC committeethe Committee decided to include this item on its June agenda. 4.) Visitors MapMr. Fonstein informed the Committee that a draft version is under internal review. 5.) A public presentation about building local business opportunities associated with the America s Cup and how to watch the event. Mr. Bloch organized the Jack Griffin s presentation on April 11 at the Oakland Yacht Club. Mr. Bloch also made a presentation to the Rotary Club on April 16. The next presentation is scheduled for June 11 to the Association of Alameda Realtors. Mr. Fonstein will make a presentation at the next Economic Development Commission meeting on May 16. The Committee reviewed and commented on the draft power point presentation. Mr. Fonstein will forward it to Mr. Boeger to post on the AlamedaWaterlront.com website. Mr. Richards has talked with members of the Prada team. He reported that they are extremely busy and had heard about the Artemis event. 2.) Visitors Map Mr. Fonstein informed the Committee that a draft version is under internal review. The Committee members discussed distribution of the visitors guide, e.g. to yacht brokers, VIA and Sunset magazine, and travel sections of various newspapers. 6. NEW BUSINESS 7.
