Chapter 2 PT Aksara Solopos In this chapter, I discuss the short profile of PT Aksara Solopos, short profile of Solopos.com group, the management of Solopos.com, job descriptions and duties of each position. Short Profile of PT Aksara Solopos (Harian Umum Solopos) PT Aksara Solopos is a publishing company, which publishes Harian Umum (HU) Solopos. This company is located at Jalan Adisucipto 190, Surakarta, Central Java. The newspaper s first issue was released on 19 September 1997 and it became the birthday of HU Solopos. PT Aksara Solopos is a branch company of PT Jurnalindo Aksara Grafika (publishing company of Bisnis Indonesia) in Jakarta which applies community based newspaper concept. The founders; Prof. H. Sukamdani Gitosardjono (Media Bisnis Indonesia and Sahid Group owner), Bambang Natur Hadi (journalist), Y.A. Sanyoto (journalist) and Danie Soe oed had prepared for 6 months earlier started on 1 April 1997. The preparation included recruiting for young journalists, looking for the new office, and printing machine. Further, they intensified HU Solopos as a powerful local daily newspaper after Surat Ijin Usaha Penerbitan Pers (SIUPP) had been officially released on 12 August 1997. Based on that SIUPP, HU Solopos has published daily information seven times in a week. Solopos also has special Sunday edition which has been published for the first time on 28 June 1998. In 2016, HU Solopos could print about 10,000 copies for Solo and some of other cities in Central Java. In the first year of publish, Solopos had published more than 40,000 copies when they massively uncovered the May 1998 riots in Surakarta. There were two main reasons of choosing Surakarta as the main basis to establish publishing company. As historical reason, Surakarta became the forerunner of Indonesian press growth. In economic side, Surakarta is expected to be one of the economic leaders in Central Java, especially in the city scope of Yogyakarta, Solo and Semarang (Joglosemar). In other words, HU Solopos wants to develop a better movement with the development of Surakarta as a smart city in the future. (Utomo, 2007) 3
4 Then, in the 10 th year of anniversary, PT Aksara Solopos tried to expand its business by establishing Harian Jogja daily newspaper in Yogyakarta, Solopos FM radio, Star Jogja FM radio, Solopos.com news website, Solopos TV, Koran O, and tokosolopos.com. The vision of PT Aksara Solopos is to be a main information presenter by doing professional business management. Whereas the missions of Solopos are being a competent and ethical human resource; presenting balanced, accurate and exclusive information; and welfare Solopos stakeholders. Short Profile of Solopos.com Solopos.com is a part of Harian Umum (HU) Solopos. It is an online news and article website of Solopos. The website was officially published at 19 September 2007, this day is coincided with the 10 th Anniversary of HU Solopos. In order to give useful information, Solopos.com provides the fastest and the latest news in Soloraya, national and international. Furthermore, Solopos.com also has many articles built in different themes and they are divided into eight channels. Those channels are as follows: Solopos News Containing the latest national news. Solopos Sepak Bola Particularly, containing domestic and international football news such as score updates, match schedules, match results, and providing unique news about football team. Solopos Sport Containing domestic and international sport news such as racing, badminton, and unique sport news in Sportainment sub channel. Solopos Tekno Featuring review of the latest gadgets product and displaying variety of techs and automotive news. Solopos Hiburan Providing the latest entertainment news and celebrity gossip including TV guides, news release about music and movies both domestic and international.
5 Solopos Lifestyle Containing articles which focus on the latest information of fashion, beauty, and health trends. Moreover, it contains viral videos from Youtube and humaninterest story divided into four categories such as inspiring, unique, tragic, and horror story. Solopos Cesspleng Featuring the latest property news, home décor trends articles, renting cars, renting apartments and housings. Solopos Loker Containing job vacancies, part-time job information, and internship information from various area and it also gives one-stop career solutions for job seekers. In order to expand the information network, Solopos.com has also controlled for semarangpos.com, madiunpos.com, and harianjogja.com. This synergy makes Solopos.com become comprehensive and trusted online media. Solopos.com not only builds the news in a text form, but also provides images, video, and live streaming news linked on Solopos TV channel. Now, Solopos.com has 3 million active visitors per month. While the page views impression has 5.9-million per month. Editor-In-Chief Editor-In-Chief is the head of editorial department (both HU Solopos and Solopos.com) and has authorities over editorial team. Editor-in-chief has final responsibility for all operations and policies. The supervisor of the editor-inchief is the president director of the company. The job descriptions and duties of this position are as follows; creating the editorial outline for publication issues, together with the executive editor; taking responsibility to deliver the company s policies to the department; leading regularly with the editorial team to discuss plans, news issues, and related business publication; having responsibility to draw up the editorial budget proposals; generating new ideas to develop the department. 2. Executive Editor The supervisor of the executive editor in Solopos.com is an editor-in-chief, whereas the subordinate is the managing editor. The job descriptions of this position are as follows; managing all day to day news publication; generating new ideas or issues publication; planning to release the news issue on time;
75 giving job tasks to reporters; verifying facts from reporter news; responsible for hiring of managing editor, editor, and content aggregator; doing some researches for the news writing from reliable sources and finding the latest national and world issues; coordinating and establishing external partnership with related parties; supervising, monitoring and giving recommendations for work performance of managing editor, editor, and content aggregator; reporting and taking responsibility for the performance of the subordinates to editor-in-chief for promotion consideration. 3. Solopos.com journalist (Online Journalist) The online journalist supervisor is an executive editor and there is no subordinate in this field. The job descriptions of this position are as follows; collecting and cultivating sources and facts to complete the news by doing interviews; writing news, features and stories. 4. Managing Editor The managing editor supervisor is an executive editor. The Managing editor can be called the assistant of executive editor, whereas the subordinates are editor and content aggregator. Content Aggregator The supervisor of the content aggregator is the editor and they have no subordinates.
