1 INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE 1.1 The Board of the College, pursuant to the Constitution of the College, has established the Tasmanian State Committee. 1.2 The Board has established the Tasmanian State Committee to: 1.2.1 advance the interests of the College in Tasmania; 1.2.2 facilitate the engagement of Fellows in Tasmania in the activities of the College; 1.2.3 in conjunction with other College Bodies and College staff, support the professional careers of Fellows and Trainees of the College in Tasmania; and 1.2.4 work with appropriate College Bodies and staff in connection with: 1.2.4.a education, training and assessment of trainees; 1.2.4.b training and continual professional development; and 1.2.4.c policy and advocacy, as each relates to 2 THE TASMANIAN STATE COMMITTEE 2.1 Committee prohibitions The Tasmanian State Committee must not: 2.1.1 enter into contractual relationships; or 2.1.2 represent or imply in any way that the Tasmanian Committee is a body independent of the College. 2.2 Composition of the Committee The Tasmanian State Committee shall comprise: 2.2.1 Not less than five (5) nor more than sixteen (16) Fellows elected from the Fellowship resident in Tasmania, of which preferably two (2) shall have completed advanced training under the aegis of the College within a period of seven (7) years prior to their election.; Page 3 of 7
Where nominations permit the Committee shall comprise the following representation - 2.2.1.a Any members of the College Board who reside in 2.2.1.b One (1) member of the Adult Medicine Division Council that reside in 2.2.1.c One (1) member of the Paediatrics and Child Health Division Council that reside in 2.2.1.d One (1) member of the College Education Committee that reside in 2.2.1.e Any members of the College Policy and Advocacy Committee that reside in 2.2.1.f Two (2) Trainee representatives, one (1) of whom is an advanced trainee, resident in Tasmania nominated by the Victorian and Tasmanian Trainees Committee. 2.2.1.g One (1) representative from each of the College s Faculties, resident in 2.2.1.h One (1) representative from each of the College Chapters, resident in 2.2.1.i One (1) Adult and one (1) Paediatric Director of Physician Education representative nominated from the Victorian and Tasmanian Physician Educators Committee. 2.2.1.j The College State Manager (as a non-voting member). 2.2.2 The Committee may co-opt up to five (5) additional members to the Committee on such terms and tenure as it shall determine. 2.3 Chair On the recommendation of the Tasmanian State Committee, in accordance with the Constitution, the Board will appoint one of the members of the Tasmanian State Committee as Chair of the Tasmanian State Committee. 2.4 Election and Term 2.4.1 Elections for Tasmanian State Committee will be every two years. 2.4.2 All College Fellows resident in Tasmania are eligible to vote in the election of Committee members. 2.4.3 The term of membership of the Tasmanian State Committee shall be two years or, if elected, until the next election is held. 2.4.4 A Trainee member of the Tasmanian State Committee who becomes a Fellow during their term as a Committee member may serve out the remainder of their term. 2.4.5 Due to the numbers of Fellows in Tasmania, State Committee members are eligible to reapply as a member; (a) following a one year gap in appointment, or (b) if the Committee does not exceed the maximum number (16) members following a State Committee election. 2.5 Sub-committees The Tasmanian State Committee may, subject to Board approval, create such other committees or time-limited or specific purpose working groups as the Tasmanian State Committee may determine from time to time. 3 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 3.1 Establishment of Executive Committee Subject to Board approval, the Tasmanian State Committee may, if it considers it necessary to do so, establish an Executive Committee. 3.2 Membership of Executive Committee The Executive Committee shall comprise: 3.2.1 the Chair of the Tasmanian State Committee; 3.2.2 the Deputy-Chairman of the Committee. 3.2.3 one elected member of the Committee; and 3.2.4 one ex-officio member of the Committee. 3.3 Role of the Executive Committee The Executive Committee shall meet in the intervening periods between the Tasmanian State Committee meetings and as otherwise required by the Tasmanian State Committee, to exercise such powers of the Tasmanian State Committee in managing the business and the interests of the Tasmanian State Committee, as may be delegated to it by resolution of the Tasmanian State Committee or as the Chair, in cases of emergency may decide. 4 REPORTING 4.1 The Tasmanian State Committee is a Board Committee and must report to the Board as required by the Board from time to time. 4.2 The Council may make exception reports to the Board to address emergent or risk management issues as required. 5 DEFINITIONS College means the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (ACN 000 039 047), an incorporated body limited by guarantee. Constitution Fellow Trainee means the Constitution of the College as amended from time to time. means a Fellow of the College resident in means a person who is undertaking a program of Basic Training or Advanced Training approved by the College in order to gain Fellowship of a Division, Chapter or Faculty of the College.
