2016 GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE
MESSAGE FROM GATF CHAIRMAN Good afternoon Council Board Members, I apologize that I cannot be here today, as I am out of state on business. However, I want to thank the members of this year s Government Affairs Task Force for their hard work and dedication in ensuring that we had a very active and successful 2016 Session at the Capitol. As we all know, transportation is an issue that looms large for Metro Atlanta, and this past legislative session underscored that. Through our legislative reception and regular committee touchpoints, we were able to ensure that our members interests were represented accurately through policy formulation during the legislative session. I would also like to recognize and thank Senator Brandon Beach for his determination and leadership in passing legislation to ensure that Fulton County and the City of Atlanta have the chance to vote on infrastructure and road improvements in Fulton, and that there will be a vote this year on MARTA s expansion in Atlanta. Additionally, the Task Force s input at the local level has made a difference in guiding James and staff in key decisions that have resulted in much success around the region. I would like to invite those of you who have not served to join the GATF and take part in our strategic planning session on September 8 th. We will be distributing a survey to all Council members to gather their feedback on which government affairs issues should be prioritized as we plan for this next year. We will use their feedback at the Strategic planning meeting to lay the groundwork for our legislative priorities and game plan for the 2017 legislative session. Andy Macke, Comcast Vice-President of Government & Community Affairs, GATF Chairman
