Ratification Ballot The Executive Council proposed an amendment to the Constitution to addresses items overlooked during the restructuring approved at the 2015 Convention. The 2016 Committee on Constitution and Bylaws reviewed the proposal, made changes, and presented the revised proposal to the delegates. After debate and amendment, the delegates at the 2016 Convention approved the changes by a vote of 256 in favor and 2 against. (MI-G and AAAAC both voted in favor) The changes must be reviewed and voted on by the chapters. Passage requires an affirmative vote of 3/4 of the active chapters.

Ratification Ballot The amendment approved at Convention: Grants the power to set the size of the Executive Council to the Convention. Removes references to election by groups since members of the Executive Council are now elected individually. Updates the election procedure to handle individual election of Executive Council members instead of election by group. Clarifies that Executive Councillors must wait a year between serving, instead of be elected to, more than two consecutive terms on the Executive Council. Changes alumnus to alumni. Tl;dr: Makes The changes other minor remove wording election changes. by slate and create a process to elect members individually.

(ef) The Convention shall elect the members of the Executive Council as hereinafter provided and fill vacancies for the remainder of the terms of office vacated. See Const. Art III, Sec. 3 (g) and Const. Art. III, Sec. 6. Subsections (f) through (j) will be renumbered to subsections (g) through (k), respectively. Tl;dr: This change specifies that the Convention will set the size of the Executive Council and then grants the Convention the power to elect the Council s members.

Ratification Ballot RED TEXT is being deleted BLUE TEXT is being inserted The second change is to Article III, Section 3. Executive Council. (a) The Executive Council shall consist of no more than twelve voting alumnus members who are alumni and no fewer than the minimum in accordance with state law. They shall serve without compensation for staggered terms of three years, or until their successors are chosen and qualified. The members of the Council shall be elected by the Convention. Members are limited to two consecutive three-year terms with at least one year off before being eligible to be elected again take office again. The Executive Director shall serve as a non-voting member of the Executive Council. Tl;dr: This change clarifies the time away that an executive council member must wait before being eligible to serve again. The change also improves the grammar.

(b) Any chapter, collegiate or alumni, may nominate one or more alumnus members who are alumni to serve on the Executive Council. Tl;dr: This change is grammatical.

Ratification Ballot RED TEXT is being deleted BLUE TEXT is being inserted The fourth change also appears in Article III, Section 3. Executive Council. (f) The Convention shall vote only on the published groups nominated individuals, except that if only one group has been nominated the number of nominees is less than the number of vacancies, any member of the delegate to the Convention may nominate a group of alumnus eligible members who are alumni to serve on the Executive Council, provided the member delegate is certain that the nominees are willing to serve if elected. Tl;dr: This change modifies the election process by allowing the Convention to elect individuals rather than groups of candidates. It also addresses the case where there are more open positions than nominated candidates.

Ratification Ballot RED TEXT is being deleted BLUE TEXT is being inserted The fifth proposed change appears in Article III, Section 3. Executive Council. The numerical results of each ballot will be made known to the Convention before any subsequent ballots are cast. Tl;dr: A separate election is held for each open seat.
