INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Book donations are increasing. The multimedia sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 10am-3pm at the Central Library. The Friends thanked Library staff member Lori Shensky for creating their fliers and their ad in the Foundation s Mystery Authors Luncheon program. Helen was pleased to see the Library has books by the authors who will be speaking at the Foundation s Mystery Authors Luncheon. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: They are providing refreshments and assistance when Canyon Hills Library hosts Hank Phillippi Ryan, an acclaimed mystery author, on March 31 at 12 p.m. Both Talks & Treats groups from the East Region will be attending this public event. Three FOCAL members will attend the Anaheim Community Services Volunteer Recognition Luncheon; and ten members have signed up to attend the Mystery Author's Luncheon on April 3, 2016. FOCAL has presently awarded a total of three Textbook Scholarships to library staff members attending library school. Two FOCAL members answered the call to revive the monthly book auction. At the beginning of March, they set up a great display in the large glass case and already some nice bids have been received on the items presented. We are very thankful to Bruce Brown for heading up the auction for so many years. The next FOCAL meeting will be March 17, 2016 in the MPR at Canyon Hills Library. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation s Mystery Authors Luncheon is on April 3, 2016, this year s theme is Brash. Reservations are down this year from last years. D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 8, 2016 MEETING: The minutes were amended to reflect Linda s question do members of the public who attend the Library Board meeting have to state their reason for attending. MOTION: That the Board approve the minutes of the February 8, 2016 as amended. M/S: DR/KS 3 ayes. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. BUDGET: Audrey shared that the supplemental for opening day collection funds for Euclid/Sunkist Libraries in the amount of $66,052 will be submitted and most likely approved. In addition a supplemental for $109,225 making the Central green space handicap-accessible will be submitted for approval.

Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting March 14, 2016 Page 2 IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. LIBRARY BOARD MEETING AT ARTIC: The Board decided to hold the August Library Board Meeting at ARTIC. B. ANAHEIM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT: Audrey discussed future joint-use library options with Anaheim Elementary Schools. The agreement with the school district is being amended to allow security cameras to be on during public library hours at Ponderosa Joint-Use Library. Library staff is working with Ponderosa Elementary School staff to allow them to use the library for their meetings. C. SCHOOL LIBRARY WEEK: The Board would like to send a Proclamation to the schools for the School Library Week next year. For this year, the Library board discussed a Library Board Proclamation recognizing Library Staff for National Library Workers Day. MOTION: That the Board approve the Library Board Proclamation for National Library Workers Day to the Staff of the Anaheim Public Library as presented. M/S: KS/LE 4 ayes. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN S REPORT: Staff will be submitting an idea to the State Library s Pitch An Idea Grant for funding for a technology van to take library services into each of the district areas, specifically into the high density socio economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Audrey thanked Stan for being the moderator of the Anaheim Reads The Maltese Falcon Detective Panel on February 20 th, 2016. The Euclid/Sunkist renovations are coming along nicely. Plans are underway to have grand openings in June/July. The M.O.U. with the Anaheim Union High School District for Project ACES (A Card for Every Student) has been signed. B. PUBLICITY: Audrey shared an Orange Coast Magazine Article feature Jane Newell, Heritage Services Manager. C. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. CENTRAL ADULT & YOUTH SERVICES ACTIVITIES & STATISTICS: Audrey shared revised Key Performance Indicators that will more accurately track use for statistical purposes. B. OPERATIONS ACTIVITIES: Included in packet. C. BRANCH SERVICES: Included in the packet. VII. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Robert Kluck for the planning and presentation of the First One Book, One City Anaheim Reads The Maltese Falcon Teen Forensic Program.

VICE CHAIR, KENNETH SHIMOGAWA: His son enjoyed the Malted Falcon book and author talk at the Haskett Library. Kenneth is helping advertise Disability Month Programs at the Libraries. CHAIR D.R. HEYWOOD: Attended the Anaheim Reads Detective Panel on February 20, 2016. Stan did a great job of tying the comments to the book. STAN OFTELIE: None. IX. MISCELLANEOUS A. I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends thoroughly enjoyed the Mystery Authors Luncheon. The Multi-Media sale on Saturday, April 1, brought in $426.00. Several nice donations of books and other media have been received. Longtime Friends Board Member Ted Millard passed away. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: They supported the entertainment for the Nowruz Cultural Program. FOCAL was pleased to accept an award at the Community Services Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on March 16, 2016. Ten members enjoyed the Foundations Mystery Authors Luncheon on April 3, 2016. The Big Spring Book Sale is April 11-16, 2016. Members are greatly supporting this sale, helping with set-up, book sales, and tear-down. FOCAL members pricing books are setting aside donated books for under 3 s, preschoolers, and early readers which will be given away at Storytimes on a monthly basis. FOCAL is pleased to have additional information about their activities on the Library s website. Their next meeting will be May 19, 2016. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation s Mystery Authors Luncheon was held on April 3, 2016. D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 14, 2016 MEETING: The minutes of the March 16, 2016 meeting were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members. III. IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. BUDGET: Audrey shared that the supplemental for opening day collection funds for Euclid/Sunkist Libraries in the amount of $66,052 was approved. CITY LIBRARIAN S REPORT: Servite High School requested to be part of Project ACES, and as a result 779 students were added to the system and these students can now log into Anaheim Public Library s online resources with their student ID card. The Library Board Meeting cannot be held at ARTIC unless it is scheduled to end by 5:00 p.m. Staff is looking into Girls Coding Clubs. The Proclamation for National Library Workers Day will be presented to staff at the Library Staff Meeting on April 21, 2016. Linda Esping will represent the Library Board. B. She is very excited to be getting emails from Library staff advertising the Library s Teen Programs that she can share with the students. Michelle was very pleased to see the Library offering Skills for Teen Parents programming. STAN OFTELIE: Mentioned that Cal-State Fullerton has a Science Fiction program as well as the original manuscript for Fahrenheit 451. CHAIR D.R.
