Syrian Newcomers and Ontario Works (CES17006) (City Wide) (Item 8.2) (Farr/Skelly) That the Mayor correspond with the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requesting one-time funding in the amount of $90,205 (representing 2.8% of the cost to administer Ontario Works exclusive of staffing costs) to the City of Hamilton to offset the increase to the 2017 Ontario Works caseload as a result of the services provided to the Syrian newcomers. 5. Resolution from the Township of Madawaska Valley respecting Bill 7, Promoting Affordable Housing Act, 2016 (Item 8.3) (Whitehead/Skelly) That the Resolution from the Township of Madawaska Valley respecting Bill 7, Promoting Affordable Housing Act, 2016, be referred to Staff in the Planning and Economic Development Municipal Law Enforcement Division for consideration. 6. Mayor s Advisory Committee on Syrian Newcomers Update (CES16023(b)) (City Wide) (Moved from Item 5.2 to Item 8.4) (Skelly/Green) (a) That the Mayor correspond with the Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and the Provincial Minister of Education, requesting an increase in funding for English as a Second Language (ESL) and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program for newcomers; (b) (c) That the Mayor correspond with the Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Provincial Minister of Education, requesting an increase in childcare spaces for parents attending ESL and LINC language classes; That the Mayor correspond with the Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Federal Minister of Health, requesting the broadening of the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) dental coverage for newcomers; and,

Minutes 17-001 Page 3 of 7 (d) That the Mayor s office correspond with the Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Director, Hospitals, and the Director, Emergency Health Services Branch, requesting that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care develop a provincial health language interpreter training program or expand provincial funding for: (i) (ii) Health language training for interpreters in healthcare settings and emergency services settings; and, Increased funding for interpreter services. MOTION, AS AMENDED, FOR THE INFORMATION OF COMMITTEE: (a) CHANGES TO THE AGENDA (Item 1) The Committee Clerk advised of the following changes to the Agenda: 1. DELEGATIONS Deferred Item 6.1 Angela Pugliese respecting a lack of support services for teens with Autism (deferred to the February 6, 2017 meeting at the request of the Delegate) 2. (d) CONSENT ITEMS (Item 5) (i) Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee Minutes November 1, 2016 (Item 5.4) (Green/Whitehead) That the Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee Minutes November 1, 2016, be received. (ii) Seniors Advisory Committee Minutes December 2, 2016 (Item 5.5) (Jackson/Skelly) That the Seniors Advisory Committee Minutes December 2, 2016, be received. (e) DISCUSSION ITEMS (Item 8) (i) Consideration of User Fees for Rope Rescue Calls (CES17002) (City Wide) (Item 8.1) (Merulla/Jackson) That staff be directed to draft a direction to assess the mapping of the escarpment and trails system for discussion at a future Roundtable meeting being arranged through Councillor Jackson s office. Councillor Jackson noted the Hamilton Council on Ageing has produced a booklet about safe hiking and recommended Staff compare those illustrations with their mapping exercise.
