At this point the people in charge of the Forum have said the deadline will not be extended. (Deadlines for ISA events are always a long time before the actual events.) As of December 1, 2011, the RC46 has 85 members in good standing. The Executive Board would particularly like to extend a welcome to three new members who have joined recently: Mikhail Beznosov (Ukraine), Ana Massa (France) and Spyridoula Xenocostas (Canada). We also have several memberships (21) that will be expiring over the next few months. During the months of October and November 2011, we sent renewal messages to these members. Of this number, 4 have already renewed, 4 confirmed that they will renew, 2 indicated that they will not renew and 11 have either not responded or are not certain whether they will renew. The vitality of our research committee is dependent on a strong membership base and we encourage all outgoing members to renew their status. Also, should you think of other persons in your networks whose profiles correspond with the activities and interests of the RC46, feel free to invite them to join our group!

-------------------- From Norma Takeuti, Vice President for Publications: The RC46 Committee on Publications (Norma Takeuti, Chair; Members: Tina Uys, Judith Gordon, Jenifer Cartland, Patricia Guerrero, Emma Porio and Ana Massa) welcomes its newest member, Olga Guzhva (Ukraine). A few of the Committee members, and Vincent de Gaulejac, were able to meet in Paris and discuss the publications agenda. This year we have agreed to begin to develop a list of clinical sociology publications from different areas of the world. We will write to you when we have started this process. Please note that Careers in Clinical Sociology by Melodye Lehnerer is now available (under Career Resources) on the RC46 website (https://sites.google.com/site/isarc46/). Because of the work of Jenifer Cartland, we are, during the next few months, putting issues of The Clinical Sociology Review on the website. The RC46 website may be accessed by going to the ISA's website and then to the listing for RC46 clinical sociology. By clicking on the ISA s website listing, you will be taken to the site developed by Committee member Jenifer Cartland. You also can reach the site directly at https://sites.google.com/site/isarc46 If you have suggestions for the Publications Committee, please contact me at nortak@uol.com.br Le Comité de Publication RC46 (Norma Takeuti, Coordination; Membres: Tina Uys, Judith Gordon, Jenifer Cartland, Patricia Guerrero, Emma Porio et Ana Massa) souhaite la bienvenue à sa nouvelle membre, Olga Guzhva (Ukraine).

Deadline for RECEIPT of Award Nominations DECEMBER 31 Three RC46 awards Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Early Career and Distinguished Book Awards - will be presented at our meeting in Argentina in August 2012. Before you nominate someone, please make sure you carefully read the award description. The award descriptions are available on the ISA website as soon as you go to Research Committee 46. (This time we are offering only three of the awards. We expect that all five will be offered in 2014.) In addition, you will want to read the guidelines (included below). (At this time, the guidelines are available only in English. We expect that a French translation will soon be available.) The guidelines are for those who are nominating individuals for awards as well as for the award committee members. When award committee members consider nominations, they will be looking first at the award description and then at these guidelines. As you know from previous communication, the publication period for the Distinguished Book Award has been extended for this first award. This time (only) we expanded the years of publication to be covered by this award from four years to eight years. Books with publication dates from 2004 through 2011 will be considered by the Distinguished Book Award Committee. If you are nominating someone, you may have questions about the process. If you do, please carefully read the award description (sent to you previously by email and available on the ISA's website under RC46) and the attached guidance. If your questions are not answered or something concerns you, please contact the award committee chair (listed below) and/or Jan Marie Fritz at jan.fritz@uc.edu (You may contact a chair, but under no circumstances are you to contact the other award committee members. It was so kind of people to agree to be on the award committees, and we want to make their task as easy as possible.) Please remember that a complete nomination package must be sent to the award committee chair AND to the two members of the committee. Each of them MUST RECEIVE the submitted nomination package no later than December 31, 2011. Please submit your nomination packages as early as possible AND the best way to send the package is by email with attachments. If a package is sent by mail, it must reach the award committee chair and the members by December 31 to be considered. In the case of the book award, a person submitting the book nomination package may decide to submit the nomination package by email and have books sent by mail to the committee chair and committee members. All materials must be received by the chair and committee members by December 31. Please note that the addresses included below for the members of the award committees may be different than addresses on the membership list. Committee members gave us the addresses (below) that they wished to use for anything that might be sent by mail in December. Please use the addresses below if you are sending a nomination package or a book. If you have any questions or suggestions about the awards or the guidelines, please contact Jan Marie Fritz at jan.fritz@uc.edu -------------------- 4

RC46 Award Guidelines Guidelines for all Committees l. Each Committee Chair should encourage submissions to her/his Committee. This may be done through the newsletter, the listserv, by email, at meetings and/or vocally. 2. Before the award deadline, questions regarding award submissions from RC46 members (or others connected to them or acting on their behalf) should be sent only to the President of RC 46 and/or the Chair of the Committee (not to Committee Members). If a Committee Member receives such questions, the Committee Member should direct the person to contact the Committee Chair or the President of the RC. The Award Committee Chair and the President of RC46 should send copies of any such emails to each other so that both are fully informed and in agreement about the Committee s process. 3. The Committee Chair is to acknowledge in a timely way that a nomination package has been received by all on the Committee. This acknowledgement is to be sent on behalf of the Committee to the person who submitted the nomination package. A Committee Member is to immediately let the Committee Chair know when the Committee Member has received a nomination package so that the Chair may acknowledge that the nomination package has been received by all. The acknowledgement is a formal communication from the Committee and should be written in an impartial way.. 4 Committee deliberations are secret. Even though the award outcome will be made public, there should be no discussion (outside of the Committee) about what individual Committee Members said or about the outcome of votes. 5 A Chair or Committee Member can not nominate herself/himself or any other person for an award given by one s own Committee. A Chair or Committee Member may not continue as the Chair or a Committee Member on a Committee that is considering his or her own work. 6 A Chair or a Committee Member may have a conflict of interest that develops after submissions are received. It is the Committee Member s responsibility to alert the Committee Chair of any potential problem. First, the matter should be discussed with the Committee Chair and then the matter should be discussed with the RC46 President. The President or, if needed, the officers should decide if there is a conflict of interest. If so, a Committee Member may need to be replaced. 7 Awards are to show that we value the contributions of Members. More than one award may be given by a Committee particularly when different languages are involved. A Committee might decide to give no award or several awards. The exception to this general approach is the Lifetime Achievement Award. It is expected that this Committee will generally name only one individual. That Committee does have the right, however, to name no one as a recipient or to name two individuals as recipients. 8 Material submitted for an award should be destroyed after the award process is completed. The exception would be books or journal issues that have been submitted to Committee Members. Committee Members may keep those books or journals or Committee Members may donate them to libraries of their own choosing. The materials are not to be returned to either the person who submitted the nomination or the person who wrote a publication. 5

9 Committee Chairs are expected to have their Committees make decisions in a timely way. It is generally anticipated that decisions will be made within 4-6 weeks of a submission deadline. 10 The Chair should collect the street/mailing addresses (NOTE: post office boxes are not acceptable for some international deliveries, street addresses must be given) for the period of nomination for all Committee Members and share this information with the RC46 President. This should be done as soon as possible after Committee appointments have been made to the Chair s own Committee. The Chair may be asked by those making nominations to have those addresses so that copies of books or other publications may be sent (in hard copy) to Committee Members. 11 Publications may be submitted electronically or in hard copy. Electronic submissions are encouraged to assure that they reach Committee Members in advance of submission deadlines. All materials are to be submitted together (by the person making the nomination) to every committee member. The only exception may be if the submission involves a book or journal issue. In some cases, the book or journal issue will be sent by the publisher (rather than the person making the nomination) to every committee member. The person making the nomination has the responsibility to see that such material arrives before the stated deadline. 12 Committee Chairs are expected to provide a report to the RC46 president about only the number of submissions and the names of any award winners (and, in some cases, the title of a relevant publication). This must be done no later than two weeks after the award decision has been made. 13. Committee Chairs and Committee Members may not disclose the names or titles that were nominated and considered or were determined to be ineligible. 14 The RC46 President will determine how the winners of the awards will be announced. Committee Chairs will have reported the names of winners to the RC46 President. Committee Chairs and the other Committee Members are not to disclose the names of winners in advance of the RC46 President and/or her/his representative making the announcement about the winners. The names of the award winners will be announced in the newsletter and on the RC46 website. 15 Presentations of RC46 awards will be made at RC46 meetings. Award winners will be notified in advance of these presentations. 16 Some Committees consider contributions that have been published over a several-year period. Some consideration should be given to the publication date of the contribution particularly if that contribution would not be eligible for consideration during the next award period. 17 No person may receive the Distinguished Career Award or the Early Career Award more than once in a lifetime. The Distinguished Service Award, the Distinguished Publication Award and the Distinguished Book Award can be received more than once. Four years must have elapsed, however, between being considered for the same award. 18 The reviews for awards for publication (e.g., books, reports, articles) or that consider publications give most consideration to publications about the field of clinical sociology and publications that explicitly connect an area (or areas) of application to the field of clinical sociology. However, all eligible publications submitted to the award committees are considered for awards. 19 Award Committee Chairs and the President of RC46 are expected to have excellent communication and deal with procedural and policy questions as they arise. If a Committee Member has questions or issues regarding Committee work that needs to be discussed, he/she 6

should first talk with the Committee Chair. If a satisfactory solution is not easily available, either the Chair or the Member may contact the RC46 President to discuss the matter further. ------------------- RC46 Lifetime Achievement Award Committee Members Dr. Jan Marie Fritz, Chair RC46 Lifetime Achievement Award Committee 7300 Aracoma Forest Drive Cincinnati, Ohio 45237 USA tel. 1-513-731-7878 fax 1-513-556-1274 jan.fritz@uc.edu Dr. Vincent de Gaulejac, Member RC46 Lifetime Achievement Award Committee 9, rue Joffre 78110 Le Vesinet France tel. 33-1-39761446 fax. 33-1-57276693 v.gaulejac@wanadoo.fr Dr. Norma Missae Takeuti, Member RC46 Lifetime Achievement Award Committee Areia Branca, 427 Ponta Negra 59090-280 Natal-RN Brazil Tel 55-84-32153559 Fax 55-84-32153556 nortak@uol.com.br RC46 Outstanding Early Career in Clinical Sociology - Award Committee Dr. Tina Uys, Chair RC46 Award Committee for Outstanding Early Career in Clinical Sociology 89 8 th Street Linden Johannesburg South Africa Tel +27-823313080 (cell) Tel 27-11-5592885 7
