What was the Cold War? Period of tension (1945-1991) involving primarily the two superpowers (United States and Soviet Union) following W.W.II No Direct Conflict between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. (otherwise W.W.III) Proxy wars fought instead (substitute nations/groups for either U.S. or U.S.S.R.)
